I’m currently a high school senior with a weighted Academic GPA (9-11) of (weighted)3.5278, unweighted(3.3611) and Academic GPA (10-11) of (weighted)3.5600, unweighted(3.400). SAT Score of 1360(710 math, 650 English). Subject Test scores of a 740 in Chem and a 670 in Math(Taking again in oct)
I made a college list and wanted to know if it is a balanced list for me and which ones I have a good chance, 50/50, or reach. Majoring in Computer Science
LIST: UCLA, UC Berkely, UCSB, UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC San Diego, UC Santa Cruz, UC Riverside, Cal Poly Slo, San diego state, San Jose State, CSUN, Chapman, LMU, Santa Clara University, USC, University of Oregon, Arizona State(Update: Admitted), Colorado Boulder and University of Arizona(Update:Admitted)
GPA is very low for UCLA, UCB, UC David, Irvine, and san diego. I think that cal poly and USC will be difficult, and the rest you have a decent to good shot at
You have competitive test scores but your GPA is low for many of the schools on your list especially for a competitive major such as computer science. UC’s are very GPA focused and although UCB and UCLA tend to be more holistic than many of the other UC’s, the average UC GPA (capped weighted) for all but 3 of UC’s is a 4.0+. Remember CS applicants will have stats above the averages.
Overall admit rates based on capped weighted UC GPA (not major specific):
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.40-3.79:
UCB: 2%-High Reach
UCLA: 3%- High Reach
UCSD: 6%- High Reach
UCD: 15%- Reach
UCSB: 14%- Reach
UCI: 13%- Reach
UCSC: 59%- High Match
UCR: 78%- Match
UCM: 92%- Safety
Cal Poly SLO- Reach (CS admit rate around 9%) Average CP GPA 4.16 and average SAT 1467.
SDSU: Match-High Match
SJSU: Reach (last year’s Eligibility index required a 4500). Your EI is 4208 (CSU GPAx800) + (SAT Math+ERBW)
CSUN: Low Match-Safety
Chapman: Match
LMU: Match
SCU: Low Reach
USC: Reach
Cannot comment on the OOS schools. I would drop some of the top UC’s and add CSU Long Beach and Fullerton as solid Match schools.
For the rest of the CSU’s its a matter of scanning the acceptance threads and calculating the EI’s of accepted students. I have collected stats for SDSU these past 2 years, but it is based on these acceptance threads so if the data posted is incorrect then the EI’s may not be accurate.
Local applicants usually have a lower EI threshold needed to get into their Local CSU, however, if the major is impacted, then the EI will be higher even for local applicants.
