I am a high school senior who has already compiled a college list. But I’m impatient, and I want to see if my list is too reach-heavy before I get too far along. Without further ado, here it is:
Clemson (Calhoun Honors College)
Wake Forest
Duke
Vanderbilt
Rice
Yale
Furman
Davidson
Wofford
I’m a white male from the great state of South Carolina with a decent EFC, but I’m not too rich. I want to major in something related to math, biology, and/or chemistry. My test scores aren’t stellar, but they’re pretty solid (SAT 1490 (710 R/W, 780 M), ACT 35). I am a National Merit SF and ranked in the top 1% of my class (#3 out of ~300). As you can guess by my screen name, my main hobby is tennis, but I am also my school’s senior class president, NHS chapter vice president, and the president of the ultimate frisbee club. I have over 100 community service hours, mainly helping out in youth tennis clinics and at my elementary school.
What are my chances at these schools, and is my list too reach-heavy?
Taken the most rigorous course load possible (7 APs through my junior year, taking 2 this year), received 5s on all 7 exams (US Govt, US History, Calc AB, English Lang, Calc BC, Biology, English Lit)
EFC about 80K
All schools are regular decision except Furman and Wofford (both Early Action) because I wanted to submit two applications as soon as I could
I’d say you have a very good chance at Davidson, and I’d be shocked if you didn’t get into Wofford or Furman.
Wake forest will be harder if you’re not applying ED because recently a large chunk of their class is from ED, still I think that’s a good college to have and think you have a good chance
Vanderbilt, Rice, Yale, and Duke will be harder to get in, that’s not to say you won’t because you seem capable to doing the work there and your community service hours will help. It depends on what they’re looking for in a given student and what you bring to the table that other accepted students or applicants don’t.
I would highly consider adding colleges that are only slightly below target. Going from Davidson to Wofford is a huge jump. I’d consider adding a college like UNC or Northeastern
