p.s. I'm a legacy
So do I have a shot at ND?

The legacy + minority status will help a lot. But you'd still be better off if you got your SAT up a big (1400+ I'd say). And the GPA, is that weighted? 'Cause you might want to bring that up a bit too.

I am actually not so worried about the test scores given the hooks (even though I would re-take) but I am curious about your GPA. Any idea what your class rank would be? I think that may be the biggest weakness, but I could be dead wrong, just depends on where you rank. do try to re-take the tests though because with that 199 PSAT, I think you can do better. Good luck!

class rank is right outside of the top ten %
I'm kind of worried about grades
and I am retaking the SAT in October

bump_______

Your hooks are going to help a lot, so don't freak out, just keep doing what you can. Really focus on your grades, retake the SAT, and then know you have done everything you can. You can only control so much, so don't stress it too much! Even if you get rejected (not to say you will) you still can get into ND :) I am living proof of that.

thanks irish
ill work on the grades

bump__________

anyone else?

Smith
You have an excellent chance in my view. Legacies are admitted at about a 50% rate, and with your accomplishments you are most certainly a strong applicant. If you want to go to ND then go for it. ND also has a minority recruitment weekend in the spring that you may be invited to, so watch for that. Good luck!

Thanks! .

yeah, id put money on your acceptance.

thanks again for the feedback

Your scores and GPA are a bit low for ND, but given your various hooks and strong ECs, I would predict acceptance. But these things are never certain, so focus on bringing those numbers up and you have an excellent shot. Good luck to you.

thanks Ill work on the numbers

thought Id bring this one back from the dead to decide EA or RD?

Well, since EA is kind of focused on admitting applicants with higher GPAs and test scores, you might want to wait until RD. You definitely have a shot especially because of your hooks, but I'm not sure your stats are what ND is looking for EA.

My son wants to apply early to Notre Dame, but is not sure if he will be qualified enough to do do among what will certainly be an unbelieveable pool of well-qualified applicants

Going to Notre Dame has been his dream and passion for many years!

Does he have a substantial chance with the following "resume":

Academics
GPA: 3.7 unweighted 4.176 weighted
Rank: 15 or 16 out of 165 in class
PSAT: 228
SAT: CR-800 M-800 W-730
SAT II:
Math 2- 760, Chemistry- 790, US History - 690
Advanced Placement:
European History – 5, Biology - 4 (taken in 10th grade)
Chemistry - 5, US History- 4 (taken in 11th grade)
These APs are the only ones the school allowed him to take in those grades. He is taking 4 AP classes this year and will take 6 AP Exams in May

Student Activities Grade
Key Club 11-12
National Honor Society 11-12
Academic Team 10-12
Chess Club 9-11

Team Leader, Weekend Freshman Retreat 12

Athletics Grade

JV Football 9-10
Varsity Football 10-12

{Also conditioned/worked out 4 days per week after school and during each summer for football for 2 to 2 1/2 hours per day. Football is a year-round sport at his school and it takes up a great deal of his time!

He's not Division I football material (only 6'2" & 230, playing 2-way as an offensive tackle and defensive end), but could possibly play Division II.}

and is not a legacy.

Thanks so much in advance for any and all input!

Brandon's mom, your son's stats are as good as or better than mine and I was accepted EA. :)

I agree, have him keep working on his rank but I think he is EA material.

Also, just for future reference, go ahead and start a new thread! It helps us find your post so that we can serve you better.
