What are my chances?

Hey, I'm in the summer after my Junior year in high school, and I'm a bit conflicted about schools to apply to. I tend to be pretty modest about my history, and because of this I don't know where I can get into because I generally sell myself short. But I've been prompted to post this to see whether or not I can actually make it into the prestigious University of Chicago. My GPA is between an A- and an A, and I've taken every single advanced course offered in my school, and I'm an IB Diploma candidate. I took the SAT: M-700 V-700 W-660 but I plan to take it over...and the ACT: Composite- 31, E-29, M-32, G-29, S-32...I have a 620 on the Math IC SAT II but I plan on taking the IIC, the IC again, and the U.S. history and I am going to work until they are all at or around 700. I also am the ace on my varsity baseball team, I won all league, I ran varsity cross country in 10th grade, I'm in the National Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society, and the National Science Honor Society, I am looking at a very nice recommendation from my guidance counselor and teacher recommendations should be equally nice. Though I don't know what makes me stand out that would help me get admitted into the schools like the Ivies, or schools equally strong in academics. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

yeah, man, you can make it

Essays.

You have a very good chance on making into teh ivy leagues. Remember tow rite a strong essay and you will be fine :) Good Luck!

thank you esquared. It's really an eye-opener to hear that, especially when it's written as blunt as you put it. I hate to ask, but knowing the reputation of U-Chicago, is it really that good of a match academically for me, could I seriously make it in without EA, or should I consider that...in addition I am uncertain whether I can visit the campus for an interview. Will that hurt much? thanks again

Whether or not it is an academic match is really for you to decide, however if you feel it is and that it's a school that could meet your needs and you really would like to attend, by all means, apply EA (as far as chances go, don't worry about when as much as just putting together a really good application).

As far as I know most people don't have on-campus interviews, I certainly didn't. Hell, my interview only lasted like 17 minutes, but it was good...and entertaining. Don't sweat it, an interview is more for your benefit than a determinant.

from what I've heard, this school is rediculously hard to graduate from. I don't find that bad, but I just wanted to hear from students if that was true. Do students have a life outside of academics, and is it hard with an urban campus?

Haha, well I'm an entering freshmen, but like most things in the universe, I imagine UChicago is what you make of it.

Also, don't walk through the quads after midnight because the gates of Hell will open up and swallow you. You will then join the legions of undead who live on the 5th floor of the Reg and eat the fleshing of the less studious.

Yes, that's the reason you see students carrying ninja stars and balloons of holy water.

ha, alright it's nice to hear that, i'm pretty interested in the university. Do you guys feel any rivalry with Northwestern because of the proximity of the campus, or do you completely seperate yourselves as 2 different colleges.

The graduation rate is something like 88%. Not Harvard's 98%, but not bad.

Northwestern, from what I can tell, is a good school but more of the artistic of the two; and before you begin slapping me about the ears like a wet puppy, UChicago has the reputation for being the academic demigod where as Northwestern is good but not as difficult.

I have also heard Northwestern and Uchicago have some rivalry stuff going on because Northwestern is better known but the people who know uchicago think we've got it goin' on... like donkey kong...
