What are my chances?

GPA unweigthed(without ninth grade): 3.85
GPA unweigthed(with ninth grade): 3.95
GPA weighted(without ninth grade): 4.2
GPA weighted(with ninth grade): 4.32
4.0 freshman year
3.85 soph year
3.85 junior year

I am a senior right now, I have completed AP Bio(5), Ap Chemistry(5), and AP computer science(4)

Honors: Development of civilization A(10th grade), Algebra 2 H(10th grade), Precalc/Calc A(11th grade) and geometry H(9th grade, if this counts or not).

Currently taking AP Physics C, AP comparative gov., Ap Stats, Ap Calc BC.

SAT I: 2050, 800 math, 700 writing, 650 CR
SAT II: Chem 800, Bio 740, Math IIC 740

ECs <----- very weak, the determining factor i think.

I have been volunteering at a convalescent hospital for about two years
I tutor Biology/chemistry/calc A been, doing it for one year
I am the webmaster of astro club for two years
I am the ICC Rep for Physics Club
Treasurer for Robotics Club
CSF three years
Leader-in-Training service(basically teach children at a day care), provided by the city

I plan to major in engineering or biochemistry, can you please evaluate my chances.

I think thats about it, any feedback would be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance.

Are you in state or out of state? If you are out of state, I think you are too much of a reach. In state your GPA is okay/average, your SAT I is on the low side for Engineering. EC's are a little weak, you will probably be okay if you kick a*s with your essays and bring your SAT I up 150 points. Or try the ACT test and shoot for a 31+ score. The Engineering School is very competitive. Good luck!

yeah I have a miscalculation on my sat score its actually 2150, it was late at night when i was typing this in so I was brain dead. thanks for your reply. And I am from California

EC's are not the determining factor at CAL; the 2150 is much better; I guess the numbers do add up to 2150...

Read the Freshman Letter on the Berkeley Admissions website:

http://students.berkeley.edu/files/Admissions/Freshman_07.pdf

and

the Freshman Selection Process for 2007:

http://students.berkeley.edu/admissions/fallapp.asp?id=56&navid=N

Both of these pieces were really helpful to me at this time last year when putting my Cal application and essay together.

Engineering is very competitive at CAL. For in-state, and a 2150 SAT and 4.2 GPA (10,11 grade) I still have to say it is not a guarantee, but better than at 2050. Make sure the rest of your app looks good and you have killer essays. Good luck!

Are specific engineering fields more competitive than the other engineering fields. I want apply for Civil engineering , how is the competition for that? by the way tanks for your reply.

"EC's are not the determining factor at CAL"

Agree. Berkeley puts heavy emphasis on Personal statement and essay.

Dude, like we've said, if you write a good personal statement.

YOU ARE IN.

End of story. I know like 10 people with way worse GPA/Profile that went to Berkeley

BTW, what is your rank in your class?

UCs apps don't ask for class ranks.

"End of story. I know like 10 people with way worse GPA/Profile that went to Berkeley"
-interesting

really? Oh ok.
I thought for sure there was a spot for that.
Maybe I'm getting confused with all the Ivy Leagues and other schools I'm applying to!
Sorry = )

One thing I love about the UCs (no rankings baby!)
And sure, no need to receive recomms. from teachers.

That's why, personal statements and essays are SOOOOO important.

And where else are you applying Manu (I added you to my MSN list, If you want to discuss about that there since I don't want to Hijack OP's thread)

So anyway, OP, I see your grades are going down. Not a very good impression, but try to make that up with nice essays and PSs.

GPA unweigthed(without ninth grade): 3.85
GPA weighted(without ninth grade): 4.2

Those are the GPAs that matter. Berkeley does not look at your 9th grade grades.

SAT = 2150...hmm, that's pretty good.

Some people say Berkeley REALLY look at the essays...I don't buy it. It's somewhat important, but mine weren't that great, and I've heard other students say they BSed theirs. Now, I'm not suggesting that you BS your essay. You should try to make it as good as possible. I just want to give you a more realistic chance evaluation.

By the way, your ECs are okay. They don't seem "weak."

Anyway, my opinion: match. That means you have a pretty good chance of getting in, but you could certainly also not get in. The only way to find out is to apply. :)
