I want to get into University of Chicago or Northwestern

Academics:

My grade trend shows an increasing gpa with difficulty of classes going up.

I didn't take any honors/AP classes until this year, my junior year.. I'm taking 4 this year.. I plan on taking 6 honors/AP next year

I haven't taken the ACT yet but I'm shooting for a 34

EC's I did football freshman year, tutored, did the northern illinois leadership seminar, and played volleyball sophomore year.. This year I'm on academic team, varsity volleyball, and I'm joining NHS

middle class, white

Do I have a chance even if I wow them with an essay? I'm very pessimistic.. I don't think I have a shot in hell... I did, but then my friend told me I had no chance lol.

yea i agree with eugenia. I definately think that u should apply no doubt it. But, realistically it is gonna be pretty tough. All I am saying is that you better wow them with an essay. But good job on ur GPA and classes. School do like upward trends, so that is going to be in favor. Anyways, good luck with applying!

uv got enough time in one summer btwn junior and senior year to forge "solid" EC's, get an internship, study abroad, do service, and start a research paper or more if ur worried about ur EC's, grades and scores are the most important part of your application anyway, everything else is secondary
