Essays
I’ve had my essays read by three people, two of whom are English teachers. I feel that they’re fairly strong essays.

That weighted UC GPA hurts. Unless you're school ranking is high or you school is ridiculously hard for everyone, that is going to be detrimental for the top UC's (UCB, UCLA, and maybe UCSD). What's your unweighted GPA?

I hate to say this, but last year my son applied to the UC's with very similar "stats" - slightly higher GPA, different mix of SAT's but similar total scores, different but comparable EC's - and he got skunked at UCB, UCLA and UCSD. The good news is that the other schools are pretty solid for admission and are terrific schools overall. I wouldn't overlook the opportunity at UCR - you can take advantage of great educational opportunities there and have a chance for real personal recognition and intellectual growth. If you are really oriented towards making the most of your opportunities - as opposed to being a slave to fashion - it might be your best bet.
