Hello. First off, I really don't want to hear anything about screwing myself over, I understand that I fooled around in the past and I know that I can't change that.

Alright, my stats are as follows:

GPA: 3.0
SAT: 1800

Things that might help me:
1. I'm a minority. (Does it really make a difference?)
2. I am in an AP foreign language, and doing well
3. I'm in a majors program at my school (The requirements for this include job shadows, community service, 2.5 gpa or higher, certain classes the meet the requirements of the field I'm interested in.)

I'm still a junior and I have not taken my SAT 2's yet, nor the AP test for my foreign language class. With good scores on both of those tests, what should I be looking at?

I want to stay in Southern California. I know that there is no chance of me getting into a school like USC or Cal-Tech for example. I think with my stats I should be fine for Cal State schools. I live very close to CSUCI and since the school is rather new I should be able to get in with no problem. I originally wanted to go to a UC school such as UCSB, but I decided that with my grades this just won’t be possible. Any advice guys/gals?

Hey... here are some suggestions. I'm on the eastcoast so am not as familiar with westcoast schools and therefore used a search to select these options.

REACH: Occidental College, Pepperdine University, University of California-Los Angeles
SEMI-REACH: Pitzer College, University of California-Berkeley, University of California-San Diego
GOOD FIT: Chapman University, Loyola Marymount University, Santa Clara University, University of California-Irvine, University of California-Santa Barbara, University of Redlands, University of San Diego, University of the Pacific, Westmont College
LIKELY: Azusa Pacific University, Biola University, University of California-Davis, University of California-Santa Cruz

As I said, I don't know much about California schools so you might want to get some other opinions. I hope this helps!

I do think that the information you provided might be not fully correct though. Under the likey fit I saw UCD. I doubt I would be able to get into that school.

Hey WM., as I said I'm no expert in California (I looked solely at PA/MA/NY/CT/NJ/MD/DE/RI schools when I was making up my college lists). UCD, in my opinion, looks to be close to (if not) a likely for you... the SAT scores are (25%-75%): CR 490-620, M 540-660, W 500-630. I'd say with an 1800 (that's approximately 600-600-600 I figured), the fact that 97% of the student body is in-state, and your minority status that you've got a really good chance of getting in there (hence likely rather than safety). UCD is more of a "good fit" school than most of the others I listed under the likelies... but nevertheless, I'd say you have an excellent chance of getting in there. Best of luck!
