what are my chances?

I'm looking to transfer to a more competitive school...and I really would like Yale for a lot of personal reasons...and I was wondering if someone could help me.

I have a hook...i did horribly in high school. I was addicted to cocaine and other drugs, most probably because I came from a poor family and shared a bedroom with my two sisters and did anything to escape family drama. And i'm an excellent pianist...something my mother gave up. She wanted to go to yale to study musical theory, but abandoned it after she widowed.

and i'm a minority

any suggestions...

make sure you put your life story in the admissions essays, unique situations like that are hard to chance, i have a unique situation too...(low income, mother of 2, living off of scholarships and work study) sounds like a shoo in to me though if you can explain it properly.

boost your gpa a little more (work your ass off for 4.0 this semester because college gpa is the most important factor for tranfer admission) and increase your sat score by 50 in each section, then you should be fine. However, the top schools you have mentioned are still very difficult to get in.

Market yourself well through essays. You have to show WHY IT HAS TO BE THAT COLLEGE in particular because adcoms will prefer students who's actually interested in transfer over those who just hunt for prestige. (And trust me, just by reading your essay, they can tell you are passionate about getting in or if you are just applying to tons of top schools to win an admission)

Good Luck.

Will those colleges accept an ACT score taken in college?
