I know i dont have really good grades and I currently have a 2.0. I am a Senior in highschool. Ive just really been through alot and im proud that I have made it this far. I just dont have alot of help from mom, whom i stay with including my older brother. I didnt take my SAT yet but i plan to take it on the next date which is Jan 26. I really want to take up psychology in school and become a psychiatrist. I am just really in a hole trying to dig my way out.....What to do? Should I send in college applications without an SAT? And what about my GPA, its not good....so maybe i would have to go to a tech school? I really just need help right now..Im trying to fgure all of my options out by myself....HELP

One option i would recommend for you (probably the most favorable also) is to attend community college for a couple of years then transfer into a 4 year college. Seeing as you have not taken your SAT's yet...this would be a good option. However if you do take the SAT's in January...i cant really recommend a school because most 4-year colleges only accept your scores upto December of your senior year.

hope that helps,

Community college would definitely be a good option for you. If you are able to get away from home and have an independent academic lifestyle, I bet you'll be able to dig yourself out of whatever hole you're in. Plus, if you do well in community college, you can transfer to a state school or a private college after 1 or 2 years.

I recommend studying for the SATs (buy a book or see if you can find free practice tests at your school/library) and try to do well, and maybe you can contact colleges specifically to ask if those scores will be eligible once you've already sent in your applications (deadline for applications is January 1st).

Also, go talk to your college counselor and she'll be able to point you in the rght direction. You don't need to do this totally alone!

Good luck!

sweets, you can still sign up for the December SAT as long as you sign up by NOV 8th. Also, can still sign up for the ACT for DEC 8th. You would have to sign up between NOV 6-14. Both tests signup are now in the late registration time frame so you would have to pay an extra fee. Just double check to make sure I am right. Also, I did a a little checking and I think you should check out the following schools if you prefer not to go the community college route: Southern Wesleyan and Limestone in South Carolina, Augusta State in Georgia, and South Alabama, North Alabama, and Troy University. It looks like they take a fair amount of people with your gpa. Also, it looks like a lot of them do conditional acceptances if you are close to their numbers. It appears they look at the applicant as a whole and make decisions that way. I think that some of these schools may be receptive to what your situation is. Check them out at college board and than see what you think on their web sites. Good luck.
