Spring 2008 Transfer
570 Reading 660 Math 680 Writing

College GPA: 3.08 ( I am at RPI, a second tier technical school )
Great recommendation from my employer, I am the lead programmer for a major marketing firm.
Good recommendation from my professor.
Great essay, I believe.
HS GPA: 3.5

I dont know about transfer students as that is an entirely different pool. It also depends on if you will be a commuter/day student or are seeking to live on campus. In general, transfer students have an easier time than first year freshmen because its not reported in the same manner, though Fordham doesnt strike me as a school that is neurotic about its admitted student stats like some of the elite colleges. I think overall you are fine. If they have room, they may well admit you. Your programming may also catch their attention.

What is your overall intention here? Its a bit unusual to seek admission in the middle of the year, if I understand you correctly. Are you certain Fordham is for you? Why do you want to leave RPI, which has a good reputation. I assume you are coming in as a sophomore having completed at least one year at RPI, is that correct?

Again, I dont speak for Fordham, nor do I work for them.

I will be commuting. Does that help me? I want to take humanities again! RPI is too technical for me. That is the basic reason. Will my 3.08 at RPI be impressive to Fordham?

But doesn’t RPI have several kinda non-techie majors that might fit you? I agree w/ catfishin that Fordham is no RPI, and I hope you can find something to keep you in Troy. The 3.08 will not impress them that much. They accept a lower % of transfers than frosh. Make sure if you do get in that the grass is so much greener on the other side of the fence. Maybe do a summer there first to chk it out.

OK, regardless of what college you want, I think a 3.08 is a bit on the low side.
BUT, if you have good grades in the humanities classes (i imagine it’s the technical courses that are bringing your GPA down?), I would ask those professors to write you recommendations, it will help express your intent to have a better humanities focus. Also you should explain how the RPI classes are too technical and that the major humanities that Fordham offers over RPI with less technical intensity is exactly what you need.

If that letter you already have is from a humanities professor, then your set.
Percentage wise, I’d give you about a %40 chance without doing anything (i.e. lackluster letters)

there are no real humanities courses at RPI. I took a writing “intensive” (2 pages a week) course, but all the topics of the papers were technical! I did take pyschology and got an A+. I got my school recommendation from a technical professor because my curriculum here is making me take all technical courses this semester.

However in my essay, the point that I stress is that, I want to study computer science but I want to study the humanities, which will lend me creative insight when I approach computational problems. I say much more than that, but thats the basic idea.

Again, Im hoping my job will distinguish me. I have a full time job, working for clients like the ACLU, Nokia, Pepsi. And I spent a paragraph about this in my essay.

I also got a great recommendation from my employer and plenty of summer EC’s and HS EC’s.
