what are my chances? =)

harvard (High Reach)
yale (Reach)
princeton (Reach)
cornell (Match)
stanford (Reach)
MIT (Low Reach)

That's what i think... with my noob-like analysis! RJ, huh...? LOL! certainly is THE IVY FEEDER! hehe! you're awesome! go get 'em HYPSM! :)

PS: i was there for RCLF too! what SIG were you from?
PPS: here's my chance thread... would be great if someone as pro as you could look through it and chance! :) thanks in advance!

oh yeah... that's after you get fantabulous SATs! :)

Thanks everyone for your advice!

newenglandparent: Yea thanks for your timely advice! Btw what is considered a gd SAT score for UChicago?

barboza: Yes thanks for your advice! I will definitely strive to improve for the better in SATs!

lisieux: There's early action for UMich? Pardon me for my lack of knowledge regarding US colleges. >< yea i'll be applying for UIUC and UWM too. These are great schools!

limitedvocab: Yea just want to ask one question though, can we apply for the same college again if we're rejected once?

100%Tuna: Sure i'll do so now! Btw, i didn't take part in RCLF though. I took part in RCLP if you look closely enough :P Hope you had an awesome time there!

Thanks barboza and Gryffon for your comments too! Yes i will work on my SATs!

UMich has no early action, but a rolling decision.. Meaning the earlier you submit your application, the earlier you'll get your decision too, about 6-8 weeks I believe?

Answering your question to limitedvocab, yes of course you can reapply.

Anw, hello schoolmate. :D

Oh but will rolling decisions affect your chances of getting into the college?

kwaldner. i am telling you. aim for 2400 because

1) you can do it
2) you can do it.

you're obviously one of the smartest people in your JC. aim for 2400 for your SAT I so that you can hit mid-2300s. the singapore pool is insanely competitive - you need to look at a higher score than what domestic applicants are usually safe with. then you're obviously in. :)

like, seriously. tons of impressive science and research, great SATs (if you get them), fantastic at sports + captain to boot... i can't see you getting rejected at more than 2 or 3 schools if you get ~2300.

^ The earlier you apply, more chance of you getting in since there are more spaces.

Thanks screwitlah for your honest advice! Will make sure that i'll hit >2300 -2400! I took the first SAT without much preparation! haha.

lisieux: you're J3 this year? :D

Oh do you know where I can get a list of schools that offer rolling admissions? Thanks! :)

So when is it considered an 'early time' to apply for these colleges (those that offer only Regular Decisions)?

haha, how not to be honest? not many people have award-winning research projects, go to MIT for internship (RSI?) and get a few research papers published and not get into a place like MIT.

lol i daresay you actually have a good shot at a PSC scholarship!

Lol okay that's quick. Haha yeah I'm an alumnus. Haha.

Anw, regarding the SAT scores, well, it's important but don't kill yourself over it. My SAT was just several points above yours but I got to good unis too (upper 2nd tier unis), with much less impressive ECs than yours. So SAT is important, but there are other parts of the application that are equally, if not more, important. (For me, essay is very very important, because I think i made it because of my essays.)

Thanks lisieux for the encouragement! Yea I will try and write a really gd essay! :D

Oh do you know where I can get a list of schools that offer rolling admissions? Thanks!

So when is it considered an 'early time' to apply for these colleges (those that offer only Regular Decisions)?

<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/354075-list-colleges-early-action-early-decision-rolling-admissions.html?highlight=rolling+admission%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/354075-list-colleges-early-action-early-decision-rolling-admissions.html?highlight=rolling+admission</a>
Search function ftw! Haha.

Hmm, there's no "early time" is there? Just as long as you submit your app before the deadline. Or am I misunderstanding your question?

You obviously have a very good shot for them all. I don't know the prestige or status of most of your reasearch-based awards but they sound impressive :) . I do know of the Australian competitions, and I think they aren't your most impressive results. I mean, they are good, but not extraordinary, jaw dropping. So i would recommend that you trim your profile especially since you are only gonna be able to list 5-7 of your most significant academic-awards. Forced quanitity on an application can sometimes work against you.

As for your school results, the B3 doesnt sound too good, but please let me know if i m wrong, coz i m not too sure of ur grading system.

If you can manage near 800s in ur subject tests, have a near-perfect GPA (a lot of international students at MIT had very very good GPAs), then I m sure you can show schools like MIT and Stanford that you can handle the courseload along with your ECs. I really like the table-tennis ECs, it certainly adds an extra dimension to your application. You certainly are VERY impressive in the research category. That MUST be your main theme, in my opinion.

For the sole reason that only about 4-5 ppl make MIT (and many hundreds apply), probability suggests its gonna be a reach for you (random decisions are made, look at me ;) ), but I wouldnt at all be surprised if you get accepted. In fact, i think you are very much alike international admits from countries other than singapore (havnt contacted any of the spore admits) - so i would think you should make it.
If the SATs are increased, then you should make Caltech as well.
harvard High Reach
yale High Reach
princeston - with the help of higher SATs, you wil be a very strong candidate
cornell - Easily in ( i think)
stanford - place a huge importance on the character you portray on the application, but you are very qualified in the research area so i think a Reach

You should realise that since most schools had intl admission rates of 4% its very very hard to give an accurate chance, hence most CC users often say Reach...please don't take it personally...i got a lot of High Reaches myself, and i did ok. But if i were to guess the schools you make, then on a good day, you would make MIT, Caltech, Cornell, Stanford and waitlist at Princeton. You would certainly not be straight out rejected at MIT, caltech or stanford.

PS: The SAT 1s are usually overlooked, but thats only the case if you get over 2200 ...so its a big must. Most unis consider a 2250 just as highly as a 2400...so a 2030 is a stain at the moment. (dont worry though, my first score was 1980...haha...and all the unis know this because they get ALL the scores)

hey! how did ya get the MIT internship thingy? one of your MANY MANY researches, i'm guessing...

lisieux: Hmm is there like a specific no of weeks before the actual deadline that could maximize your chances of getting in that college? ;)

Sidfromaus: Thanks! I will definitely increase my SAT score to >2250, probably taking again in oct. ><

100%Tuna: lol was lucky to get the internship! MIT's really selective! :D

how many research papers have you had published, because i would hope colleges care more about actual contribution to science than some arbitrary SAT score? i just looked up JYI, and it seems legitimate (bit confused on who reviews the papers, are they students?) i think you can get into any university you want based on your publications and presentations, though.

upton: Yes, its a student-run journal. Thanks for yr comments!

Do any of the Ivys or universities such as UChicago, Michigan Ann Arbor and Duke offer rolling admissions?
