I was just wondering what my chances would be of getting into Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I'm an entering Senior this year.

Here what i have so far:

GPA: 3.1 w (i know its not so great, but only one aspect)
SAT: 1860; 700 Math, 590 Writing, 570 Reading
ACT: 28
by the way, i will be retaking both of those very soon

Next Year I'll be taking
AP Comp Sci
AP Stats

I've already taken (didn't do so well though)
AP World History - 1
AP United States History - 2
AP Physics B - 3

Varsity Tennis for 2 Years
Track and Field for 2 Years
Cross Country for 1 year

In about 3 clubs. I'm also planning on creating one this coming year.

Hey..if you could improve your reading score that would be great, but with a high math your fine.

I think you have fairly good chances, and should be able to get in. APs, clubs and being a minority are all good... your AP scores are a little low, but I still think its better then not taking them at all.. Applying early decision or early action helps too.

Don't want to scare you, but my S wasn't accepted this past year. This is with SATs of 730 Math, 650 Reading, 610 Writing. Very strong ECs, awards etc. Some intangibles were also in his favor: his brother is there (Dean's list every semester) and me being an alum (I've given every year for 20+ years).

We thought that this would be a safety school, and it became anything but. This was not going to be the best fit for him, and he's at his first choice school in a few weeks.

I don't know if you are going to get in that easily...just make sure to improve those ACT and sat scores and apply ED...maybe you'll have a chance then...

I don't mean to scare you, but aside from your SAT math, you don't currently have much working in your favor. I think that, currently, your best bet is to try to improve your SAT math even further so you can wow them with a 750+ and get high SAT II scores. Good grades during the first bit of senior year will help a lot too :)
