What are my Chances?

Please Chance me.

White Male from Virginia

GPA
3.94/4.0 U.W
4.56 W

Rank
3-4/217

ACT
29 (Definitely retaking, this will hurt my chances)

Enrolled in a Gifted Program, along with taking all APs and Honor classes.

During 10th grade year, there was a problem with our gifted teacher and she deliberately gave everyone in the class a b. This dropped me out of first in the ranking. The board of supervisors and school board are deliberating on whether everyone should be awarded and A or a B, so my GPA/Rank may fluctuate

I come from a very competitive school that sends students to Harvard, JHU, MIT, Air force Academy etc. will definitely have good recommendations, along with a great essay. This is a rough resume, but if I apply early action, do I have a decent shot? Thank you for your input.

Assuming that you can get above a 31, then you stand a decent shot, I think. I’m not super-knowledgeable though, so don’t quote me on that.

i’m not sure about this but don’t list whos who on your application.

I’d say your chances look pretty good

how can we judge you? there are thousands of people with the same ACT score as you, what about you stands out as unique? everybody takes AP classes nowadays. you’re ECs are too random and unfocused, and you dont have a high position in any of them.

i dont understand how you’re ranked 3 or 4 in your school with such an ACT score…normally higher ranked kids are higher ranked because they’re good at getting high scores on tests.

^ Kids are ranked higher because they get better grades than the other students in school. It has nothing to do with test scores. I’m 2nd of roughly 225 in my class and my ACT score is only a 29. You seem to imply in your post that test scores are that matter, which certainly is not true.

Don’t think that you can’t get in because you don’t have amazing test scores. Georgetown looks at you holistically. Follow your passions and don’t just do something because you think it will look good on an piece of paper.

I got a 2000 on my SAT (640 math, 670 reading, 690 writing) and I got in after getting deffered early action.

^^^Seriously? Congrats! You just made me very happy.

hahaha. you really enjoy being secretary. why not go for president? i know it’s a lot more responsibility, but you do more ACTION and less busywork.

you should apply EA to increase your chances, but keep in mind – it’s a SINGLE CHOICE EA, so you can’t apply ED anywhere or apply EA to yale/stanford, etc.

good luck with everything! and study hard on your ACT!

Georgetown’s Early Action program is not single-choice. You may apply to other schools early, as long as you’re not applying to any binding (i.e. Early Decision or Early Action Single-Choice) early programs.

from your experience, you should be a dandy secretary. lol

I’d say get your test scores up and you’re good. Do you have any community service ECs? Georgetown is really into outreach.
