I have been rather sheltered for the past 17 of years; it was only a week before when I realized that there are a LOT of very intelligent people out there, and that competition for a college seat is prolly more competitive than I first thought.

My question is: with a 101.241 (weighted) gpa, a 1240 (on the old) SATs (which I am definately going to re-take) and I am taking all the honors/accelerated courses at my school, I was wondering if I had any possible shot (even a teensy-weensy one) at getting accepted into NYU?

definately a shot at NYU, but you should probably give more information for others to evaluate your chances ( class rank, extra-curriculars, ap scores, SAT II scores, other stuff)

well- I'm 3rd in my class (although I do have to boost up my average to get up higher).

As for extracurriculars, I was in the Science Club for the past 3 years; I've been in the Polish Club for the past 2 years, in the French Club since the beginning of this year; I've been volunteering in a hospital since November (I do approximately 6.5 hours a week); a Badminton Club is being started, so I'm going to do that; and I'm in the Book Club (which holds some type of "prestige" in my school, since it's only offered to AP history students). Also, I've been playing the piano for 10 years come October.

I'm only going to take my very first AP exam in 2 weeks, and I'm taking the SAT IIs in Math IIc, Physics, and US History in June.

I'm not quite sure if this will count on my college app, but I will be attending the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine this summer.

Ugh, as someone who was attending debate camp at the same time/facility as the UCLA NYLF thingie on medicine, and I would wholeheartedly suggest another summer program if you're not already locked in to paying... Doesn't look like fun and you'd have to wear business-ish clothes almost every day... Ah well, I'm just naysaying something I haven't really tried ^_~... It'll go on your app, but I'm not sure how much it counts for...

Any other college choices? Like, having only one option is probably not the best idea...

Oh I do have lots of other colleges on my mind, such as Trinity, SUNY Binghamton, and Oberlin (and many more), but I was just wondering what kind of chances I had at NYU.

since your third in your class, that means that you have a good gpa. But to prove that because you are third in your class and that getting in the top ten percent at your school is a great achievement, you need to have good test scores. A 1240 now shows colleges that achieving 3rd in your class wasn't something hard to do and it doesn't mean much. You need to pull it up to a 1400 or whatever it would be on the new scale. If you do that, and have other good stats, you would probably get a scholarship to NYU.
