What are my chances?

I usually don't like to post these, but because McGill admissions is entirely grade based it's not that debatable.

Public school in Ohio
IB Diploma Canidate (TOK, EE, all of that)
No idea what my predicted grade is. My school wont send them until April 20. Does that sound too late, seeing as decisions come March?!

GPA: 4.094 (W)
SATM: 670 SATCR: 610 SATW: 650
SATMII: 690 SATMBII: 590 (! - I have no idea what happened.)

I'm applying for neuroscience and psychology

I'm thinking my chances are looking dismal...

brandnewstate, I think it's a bit hard to say so i can't give you a definite answer but just so you know, SAT scores really don't matter all that much over here in Canada, so I wouldn't worry about your chances in terms of that.

The fact that you are an IB candidate definitely works in your favor though, especially as an American applicant. As it is already harder to get into McGill as an American applicant than it is as a Canadian, McGill is one of the few canadian universities that truly recognize the rigour and difficulty of the IB program and will view you far more highly and competitively compared to other applicants.

Something to consider though is that since McGill views IB so highly, students are nowadays often forced to go right into second-year level classes because starting right at the freshman course level would put them at an "unfair academic advantage" compared to other students.
Therefore, depending on the program you are applying to, this could potentially mean graduating a year sooner than expected which may or may not appeal to you.

Hope this helped?

yes, that did help. so, does admissions place more weight on grades rather than SAT/ACT?

I hope not... I have three C's on my transcript but got 800 in CR and Writing on the SAT...

For US Students they do look at SATs, but I believe that the emphasis is placed upon grades. Not sure though... as Cdn student all I hear from McGill is grades... not even ECs for admission!

well my school does not report +/- on transcripts or use them when computing GPAs. will that put me at a disadvantage?

Another question... do they care a lot if you have one or two grades that are not B+'s for the sciences if you are applying to the department of arts and sciences?

My stats: 3.93 gpa
2140 sat
36 ACT
800 math II sat
740 bio
720 chem
730 spanish

Freshman year I had 3B+, soph 2B+ (with 1 AP weighted extra 0.5, AP Bio), junior 1B+ (3 APs, Chem Spanish and US History), and first sem senior year I will probably have 1-2Bs (geosystems and AP physics C) and probably 1B+, but I am taking 4 APs (physics C, eng lang/comp, us gov, bc calc). So do they care a lot about first semester senior year or more about soph/junior year?

I go to a magnet school in northern virginia (USA)
