I'm a senior at a competitive suburban Long Island school district. I hear from Wesleyan in 4 days. I'm not expecting to get in, but I'm still hopeful. I have lousy SAT's; but I know Wesleyan looks beyond the numbers.

-I'm an avid songwriter. I have composed 4 songs and written all music and lyrics. The songs have been professionally recorded, copyrighted and played on WUSB radio station. I played piano and synthesizer on them. I sent a CD as supplemental material with three of my songs on it. Hopefully they listened. If so, it will really help me I believe. I have played live for a Breast Cancer benefit concert and solo. I take piano lessons every week.
-I played baseball for two years in HS. I play on an elite club team on LI. I volunteered to coach a little league team 2 years ago. I worked at a baseball camp for little kids during the past 2 summers.
- I volunteer at Smithhaven Animal Hospital every week. I wrote about it on Common App.
- I work at OnTheGoFitness and run fitness classes for kids.
- I attended a 3-week program at Brown University and took Genetics & Human Behavior
- I attended a 2-week program at Boston University and took two courses: Business and Criminal Justice.

Essay: Very good. About the role of my dog as an influence.
Interview: Went very well (I sent her my music)
Recommendations: Both very good.

I know I lack the premiere standardized testing numbers that many of Wesleyan students have. But, I have a pretty solid EC foundation because it's not a meaningless laundry list of clubs (aka BS). I am an avid musician and baseball player and it shows. I have a real strong essay, recommendations, and interview, as well as solid GPA which falls right in with most Wesleyan students. Give me an honest opinion.

I don't know if you did it intentionally or not, but you really don't need to post this three times. I'd say Wes is a reach for you, but you never know and you'll find out soon enough.

Yeah, my PC was cooperating. I figured that Wesleyan was a good reach to apply to. First of all, I loved the campus. I could easily see myself attended Wes and I know I can handle the workload. But also, it's not like Amherst or Yale where it will solely look at numbers. Wesleyan will look at you as an individual rather than a statistic. Hopefully things pan out for the best....

This is true. I think Wesleyan is the most likely out of those schools to pick applicants out of a "gut" feeling that they're good, passionate, hard-working people, and not just to grab the kids with the highest test scores.

I was at the Brown Pre-College program too! In 2006... I think I was session B. Is that when you went??

Touche. My hook is the music. If they actually received and listened to my CD, that could make the difference in the end. I believe that these schools choose applicants based on what they can offer to a program. My GPA falls in the median, and my SATs are significantly lower than average. Therefore, I need one thing to make me stand out: music and extracurriculars. Unfortunately, my biggest musical accomplishment came after I applied :-/ Oh well. If admissions holds to their word, I'd like to think I have a chance.

Hmm.. I went to the 3-week course from July 13- August 1st this past summer (if that helps at all). I'm not exaggerating, it was the best three weeks of my life. The diversity of the student body was really attractive and there was such a sophisticated, yet, non-arrogant attitude among students. I'd bet that you agree with me. Nothing better than Thayer Street. I applied to Brown as well, but I have even more doubt than I do for Wesleyan. Hopefully the program, recommendation from my Brown professor, and personal connection pay off. Thats a long shot :-)

Yeah, I liked the kids I met at the camp too, but didn't think they were any indication of how Brown students are... it was just a summer program. In fact, I know more kids from that program who ended up at Wes than at Brown :)

Relax man. I sense some sarcasm... I got impatient and clicked about 50 times when my PC froze; therefore, it posted several times. I'm not that desperate for a response...

Your qualifications are fine; it depends on how admissions responds to your essay and recommendations. Which no one here can predict, having read neither. Which is why you might as well wait four days for the answer. Good luck!
