what are my chances

i am almost done with my junior year in high school. Northeastern is my number one choice for college and i plan on majoring in psychology. and i would like an honest opinion if i will get in

i am a white female, i currently have a 3.21 gpa unweighted. my gpa for freshman year was around a 3.5 and this year its been a 3.6 but during my sophomore year it was just barely a 3.0 due to a difficult year which began with three of my friends dying in september and in the spring i found out that my best friend had cancer

i go to a small college prep private school so all of the courses are very difficult and i have taken the most difficult courses for all of freshman year and sophmore year. in junior year i chose to take easier science, english, and spanish classes. but i was taking the most advanced pre calculus class offered, ap us history, and ap studio art.

my sat scores are math: 580, verbal: 540 and writing: 590
i havent taken the act yet, im taking it on june 6

i am really involved. i will have played varsity volleyball and softball for 4 years, and varsity basketball for 3. i will have been captain of volleyball and basketball for both junior and senior year. and captain of softball senior year. i am in national charity league and i have been secretary, treasurer, and i am currently the president. i am involved with junior statesmen of america (jsa), health occupation students of america (hosa), and i have been part of student counsel and california scholarship federation (CSF) for some semesters of high school. and this summer i have an internship with a psychologist.

Wow, it seems like you’ve had a really difficult time in high school, but you seem to be doing a decent job to get through everything. Make sure you write about your traumatic sophomore experiences in your essays, to let colleges really get to understand you (and also explain the poor grades). What will really hurt you are the SAT scores, but hopefully you will be able to get a high ACT to make up for it. I would still suggest trying to raise the SAT to a 600+ per section, just so you don’t look as bad. If you can raise your SAT to an 1850+ and work your butt off to pull out some amazing essays, you may have a shot. It won’t be an easy road though, so good luck.

If you haven’t already done so, make an official visit to the school and mention that in your essay. If Northeastern is your #1 choice, you want to be able to be passionate about it in your essays – difficult to do if you haven’t toured the campus.

My best advice is to apply EA. It seems to make a tremendous difference. Best of luck!!

i forgot to mention that i am from california.
and i already visited the campus this year during my spring break. also, in may i went to a college fair and i spoke to the admissions person who reads all of the applications from where i live and she gave me her personal email address to ask any questions, so i have been corresponding with her which im hoping will help because she definitely knows who i am and she knows that its my number 1 choice.
