What are my chances

My father is an empoyee at BU and three of my siblings go there currently. Does that help my chance of getting accepted? My grades are not as good as my siblings but I feel I have more extra-curriculars. -I am a three sport captain and actively participate in homeless shelters and youth groups. My gpa is a 3.1/4 however and I only take one true honors class. My other honors class is Theater which I don’t think really counts. Would I be accepted?

I don’t know, your stats are pretty low for BU, but it depends what the admissions staff thinks with your parent as an employee. So, it’s hard to say.

Someone reply please! I’ll do the same! What schools should I potentially look at?

sat score? what school are you applyin to?

My SAT score was 1950 and I’m lookin at BU.

yes, but which school within BU. and thats a decent score.

College of general studies. I hope to then transfer to arts and sciences.

Your chances of getting in is not high…sry to say that…the gpa is your weakness, but try to explain your gpa in your essay. The fact that you are captains of three sports could be a reason for your low gpa. What are your SAT2 scores?

The person above me does not know what he or she is talking about. You will most likely get into CGS. Perhaps not CAS, but you’ll be fine for CGS

Most people here on this boards have no idea what they are talking about with admissions, and this whole “chance me, I’ll chance you” is pretty much just giving hope. The only people who truly know who gets in are the admissions people themselves, and you won’t ultimately know for sure until you get the decision letter in the mail.

With that said, it depends on your application as a whole - how do you apply yourself to your personal essay and what you can bring to the University. Grades aren’t always the most important part - someone with bad grades may have taken challenging courses (as I did myself), or someone may have had to work countless hours during the school year which limited their extracurricular activity. Whatever the reason is, capitalize on your strengths in your personal essay and make it evident that Boston University is your school of choice.

Secondly, to ‘want’ to get into CGS is somewhat silly. I’ve heard some rumors of the school cancelling it here, but I do know for sure that 1. Financial Aid is very very limited to CGS students and 2. the curriculum is also very limited - for the price of 50k a year you can go to a state university and get a better education at half the price. CGS is what they offer to students who are borderline ‘acceptable’ and they cannot fit into the other schools (SMG, CAS, ENG, etc.), all the while funding the tuition’s of those CGS students for scholarships for those who attend the other schools. It is not worth it, if you get into CGS, I strongly suggest going to another school even with the promise of “transferring”, which by the way, is NOT guarenteed by any means (I know the CGS program is 2 years, but you can still try to transfer prior to that pending grades, etc.).

I’m sure having siblings going through the school will help for sure but I doubt it would be so easy to grant it a ‘shoe-in’. In this case, I’d say it certainly would help.

Whatever the final decision may be, good luck to your future studies.

Well, I’m sure your ECs are fine but your GPA is low. That being said, I believe your test score becomes vital in making a decision. Your test score is decent, as stated in another post, so I would say that you have a small chance.

Btw, doesn’t BU automatically offer you a place in CGS if you’re not fit for whatever college you applied to? If this is true you should maybe consider applying directly to CAS, since CGS is not really a good choice, as also stated in another post.

Chance me plz?
