I am a sophomore in high school and I am interested in attending West Point Military Academy. I have over a 4.0 GPA and I am taking advantage of Honors and AP classes. I play soccer and cross country every year and I am an active member of many clubs including Student Government; however, my high school does not offer any ROTC program nor have I met anyone else interested in attending West Point from my high school so I am on my own when it comes to doing my research. My question is how can I improve my chances of actively competing for admission to West Point? Also, does being a female affect my chances of acceptance to the academy if at all?

Roughly 15-18% of accepted candidates to West Point are women. High School JROTC is not a prerequisite (most accepted candidates do not come from JROTC units so dont sweat it). You can see a class profile here:

Good Luck!

Thank you. If I have any more questions I know who to ask!

I was given an loa and early appointment to WP. The things I believe were most important in me getting in were: I was captain of a sport for 2 yrs, I was a leader for a missions trip, I took very hard classes to show that I was challenging myself as much as possible (and only had mid 3 gpa), and a high act. Don’t worry about it yet, but make sure you’re prepared for the interview, it can give you a major boost if you ace it. So my suggestion: be a captain for a sport, be a leader in another area, constantly challenge yourself, and prepare for the act! Good luck and hope to see you here in a couple of years!
