I know this is early, but I am going to be applying to u of m this summer for the class of 2015, and I was wondering if you guys could chance me.

Here are my stats:

3.99 GPA at a great public school
26 ACT (taking it again)
Excellent Teacher recommendations
will work really hard on the essays
Vice President of a volunteer club, have many volunteer hours from here
NHS
Gymnastics club
historian of NHS
5 ap classes

The only thing I'm really worried about is my ACT score...I know it should be higher, but I'm curious as to your thoughts on the big picture.

i was talking to an admissions counselor the other day and they said like 99% of their applicants had service which is good for you.

gpa is good. make sure you get good recs.

with a school as big as michigan, they are obviously going to take test scores into consideration heavily in order to compare you to other applicants

i would say you are in a pretty good position if you boost your act scores. that is what you are missing. those need to go up.

best of luck!

Is the 3.99 an unweighted GPA on a four point scale or is it weighted with honors and AP classes? Is the GPA is all A’s then you have a decent chance even with the 26 ACT score.

are you in-state or OOS?

The 3.99 is not weighted with anything, and I am instate.

there’ll be way more applicants this year…probably even a 20-30% increase, due to michigan’s switching over to the common app. so your chances are lower than what they were last year. last year, you’d be a shoo in for sure.

^Common Ap isn’t going to change the number of instate applications much. Only OOS. I would imagine UMich is still going to look for the same IS/OOS proportions, so IS admissions probably won’t change much.

Definitely raise your ACT score. If you are an OOS applicant that ACT score will definitely hurt your chances. On average UofM usually take applicants with ACT scores of around 28-33. 29, is around their average.

ya dude, you’re in

def. raise the ACT score. Everything else is pretty much set, just make sure your essays are really creative/good.
