What are my chances?

I know these are getting kind of old and annoying, but i’m stressing out and would just like to see if I had any sort of chance of getting into Boston College.

By the time I graduate next year, I would have taken 9 AP courses. (Soph: Stat, Junior: Enviro, Calc AB, and Bio, Senior: Calc Bc, Macro, Spanish, Physics: N/M, Physics: E/M). So far, i’ve managed to get an A/ A- in all of them except for one B+ in AP Bio  My gpa at the end of my junior year should be slightly above a 4.2 ( so its obviously weighted).

I’m waiting to hear back for my June sat scores, and I’m hoping for at least a 2100. I’ll keep you guys updated. I thought math and writing were jokes, but I struggled with the vocab section. My May subject test scores were awful- 670 on math 1 and 650 on Bio. I’m planning to take the ACT in September.

Here are some of my extracurriculars:

  • assistant teach first graders at my church
    -volunteer at Bible Camp
-volunteer at Pedia Manor (a home where children on respirators and nebulizers live)
-volunteer at Buckingham Housing ( a local shelter home for abused and underprivileged children)
    * Youth Counselor
    * Adopt a family every holidays
*organized school supply/ backpack drives for the past 4 years
*Help the kids with hw, crafts, etc
  • was a teen leader for Soldiers for Hope… the founder became very sick though, so I am starting my own soldier organization… I’ve also done Soldiers’ Angels
    -play club travel soccer
*also help out at the annual Spring into Summer soccer tournament and the world cup 3 on 3 tournament
-play varsity ice hockey (captain next year)
-been working in a doctor’s office since 8th grade
    -babysit 2-4 times a week
-member of Key Club, NHS, SHS (secretary), OEG ( hopefully leader next year), Spanish Club, and Student Government Senate ( if I get accepted!)

If I forgot to mention anything, I’ll be sure to update my list of extracurriculars!

Again, I apologize for making ANOTHER one of these threads. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

normally, I don’t do chances threads (bcos I’m not an adcom), but I did review your other previous posts. Unless you have a HUGE hook, with a 3.03 Weighted and an 1860 SAT, your chances are slim at best at the top ~50 schools, . If you are instate for UC, I’d advise focusing on R, M & SC, again assuming you don’t have a hook.

cucclater, I have to agree with bluebayou. Based on what you’ve given us here, BC is a really high reach for you. A 3.0 weighted GPA will put you near the bottom of the applicant pool, and your 500-ish SAT scores (CR and World History) are also worrisome. Although your ECs are OK, they won’t make up for the lack of academic rigor and performance.

I do hope that you have some more realistic choices on your college list. There are plenty of schools that would look favorably on your resume, but at BC (and other highly selective schools), your stats are just not competitive.

bluebayou:
sorry but what is a “hook”?

It’s another way of saying the lower your GPA/SAT profile is, the more important is to have some other compelling reason in your application for the school to accept you.

The trouble with so-called “hooks” is that the applicant often has no control over how important they are to the school.

For example, if you’re a star football quarterback who will win games for the school, that’s a great hook. However, if the school receives a dozen other applications from star quarterbacks, then your “hook” value is lowered.

a hook can be anything the college is seeking that year, such as diversity (geographic, minority, low income), athletic, musician, published author, scion of high profile politician/government leader, scion of wealthy donor, etc. (Hint: they never run out of slots for kids of wealthy donors, but it takes BIG bucks!)

Hey Guys, sorry for making another one of these posts, but I’m wondering if anyone would mind measuring my chances at getting into BC.

Public HS
No rankings

GPA: 3.45 (note below on this)
SAT: 1990
SATII Bio: 720

Held a job every summer/school year since end of 7th grade

Very interested in the field of computer science.

I know this is not much information, but thanks for reading.

Note on GPA: My freshman year was severely lacking (3.0), but Sophomore and Junior year were both a 3.6.

good SAT IIs but the GPA is kind of sketchy. i got in with a 2140, and my SAT IIs were 780 and 680. so you have better SAT IIs than me but my GPA was also higher.

Hey guys would you think i have a chance?
GPA Weighted: 3.32
SAT’s:1790
SAT II’s: Math 1=560 US History=670
tell me what you think

Cstrange611:
Take a look at the BC factbook (around page 32)

http://www.bc.edu/publications/factb…_fact_book.pdf

It will tell you the SAT range for the middle 50% of admitted freshman for the last 10 years. That will help you understand where your SATs fit.

I know this is also annoying but I REALLY want to go to BC

High School: Private
