I want to major in Social Work and heard the SUNY Albany has a fantastic program. Please let me know if it is a lost cause. I'm also out-of-state if that counts for anything.

hey, i actually visited albany today and spoke with an admissions counselor. i have about the same gpa, sats, and high school course load as you and the counselor basically told me that i’m definitely in. we even discussed the chance of being admitted into the honors college. i’m obviously not an expert, but from what i heard today, i think you definitely have really good chances!

and actually, i want to major in social work as well! the counselor told me a lot about the program and it seems amazing.

i definitely recommend visiting and talking to an admissions counselor. it was so helpful for me. and also, if you have any questions about my experience today, definitely let me know =)

UAlbany faculty member whose department is next to social work program-- Social Work has undergrad program, but is mainly grad program-- MSW is very strong degree, particularly in practice–variety of community placements/specialized opportunities available–gerontology is particularly strong. If you want to practice as a social worker, you’ll need a masters degree to get your license, so you probably should plan on that in any case. Not too many jobs for people with just bachelors degree.

I would say you have an excellent chance of getting in. I had about the same stats and got accepted. It’s a great school!

You are most definitely in with those stats, your GPA will definitely offset your low math sat score.

PS YOUR NAME ROCKS!!! I JUST SAW BRIGHT EYES AND THEY WERE AMAZING! Conor Oberst <3:P
