Hello im a high school senior with a 3.88 weighted and a 2.68 unweighted GPA as of the beginning of the school year. As for SATs I got a 460 on my reading 530 on my math and 500 on the writing. Throughout my first 3 years of hs I have taken all honors classes with a total of 5 AP classes. This year I'm taking 6 AP classes. I've been on the varisty swimming and water polo teams in my school for all 4 years of HS. I've been the captain of both teams for 2 years now. I have won many awards and have even made a sub junior national team. I'm also involved in key club (community service club), National Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta.

As of now what are my chances of getting into UM , UF, FSU, USC, or most importantly Johns Hopkins?

Note: I'm taking an ACT/SAT prep class and hope to score at least a 600 on each of the Math and Reading sections. Also, I plan to get my GPA up to a 4.3;3.0.

You have very good extracurricular but that GPA/SAT scores are really hurting you… =/

Based on information from College Board, your GPA puts in the bottom 1-2% for UM, UF, FSU. I wasn’t sure if USC meant South Carolina or Southern California, but I’m assuming you meant the former. For that school, you’d be in the bottom six percent.

Johns Hopkins accepts less than 30% of the people who apply there; no offense, but your chances there are slim. Are you trying to be pre-med? If this is the case, I would go to one of your other schools for undergrad and try to get into JHU for med school.

Your chances aren’t that great for any of these schools, but maybe your EC’s will save you. It’s good that you’re trying to get your grades up, but remember it is senior year. I suggest you research safety schools in Florida and apply to some of those as well.

So, here are the schools listed in order of your chances of getting in, from greatest to least:

In order to get your UW to 3.00 you will need straight A’s the entire Sr year. Even if you can do that the admissions decisions do not use 2nd semester for decisions, only to make sure you don’t slack off.

Having an SAT prep class give you 150pt ± increase per section is unheard of. You need to be much more realistic in your choices. Find safety schools fast.

I agree that your chances are low because many of the schools you listed admit strictly by stats (GPA/SAT). You can review the Common Data Set of each school and see the “rating” given to ECs versus GPA/SAT. FSU for example lists ECs as “Considered” but GPA as “VERY IMPORTANT” and SAT as “IMPORTANT” If you could get CR/Math SAT section up to 550 and could verify if they use weighted GPA (some colleges do not), then your chances are much improved. Avg FSU GPA of freshmen was 3.7.

It is obvious from your large number of APs that you challenge yourself. This is highly regarded at many colleges. If your AP test scores have been 4 or 5s be sure this is reported to the colleges in your applications as it is a great boost.

I believe in applying to reach/dream schools in moderation. Id’ choose 2 max.

Then focus on schools that match your stats AND are affordable for you family.
