800 math SAT 700 english 670 writing. ACT 34 composite 35 math and english. 750 USH subject test and took Math 2 today and hoping it will be over 750. Class rank #1 out of 850 , GPA 4.29 out of 4.0 (weighted classes), National Merit Finalist, 4 year Varsity swimming and captain this year, plus club swimming all year, works as lifeguard and 40+ hours in summers, Student council member but no positions held, in 7 AP classes this year and has scored three 4's on earlier AP tests. Decent essay's (writing is weak area). Not many other EC's as swimming takes all her time. Applied early decision Princeton but they have yet to get second SAT subject score. How bad will that hurt? As mom, I think it sounds like she has a shot, but thought I would ask the experts.

What are her safeties?

Also - from Indiana and she wants to go into economics…

uh-oh. Don’t know that lingo. Safeties?

U Toronto is an option for your economics-bound daughter? This is a safety I could recommend her.

A safety is a school where acceptance is almost guaranteed. She has to get in somewhere, right?

Safeties are schools that an applicant can almost certainly be admitted to. Safeties are also financially viable options.

For example, IU Bloomington would be a solid safety for your daughter. In fact, she might even be able to attain merit aid or scholarships from the University.

For the highest level of IU merit aid, is your daughter’s unweighted GPA at 3.8 and higher? She’d otherwise qualify for it.

Academically, she fits. ED will certainly help. It is hard to predict this without knowing about ECs and awards. If she has good ECs, she has a good chance.

Thanks for the clarification. KBronx17, she has been accepted to IU and is actually a Wells Scholar nominee. (Won’t find out results until end of Dec.) Also, she was offered tuition for ASU because of the National Merit. Apparently many NM scholars end up at ASU’s honors college because of the guaranteed money. What are people’s thoughts on ASU as every NM scholar has the same opportunity? If she got the Wells it would almost be a no-brainer, but her heart is still with Princeton. Guess it is just a waiting game now. Thanks for listening and replying.

Catria - her unweighted GPA is 4.08 (?) and again need lingo for ED? Obviously I am a mom going through this process for the first time. Thanks to Gabriel as well. Anxious to know what daughter will do so I can then figure out the rest of my life. :)
