Hi! It is now the summer before my junior year of high school and I am starting to look at colleges. As of now, I am looking to attend UC Santa Barbara. I would like to be a communications major there. I was hoping to get an idea of what my chances at the school would be.

For my sophomore year, I took Algebra 2, Spanish 2, English Honors 2, World History, and Chemistry. I did well in all those classes passing with mainly As and some Bs, but unfortunately I completely failed chemistry. I got a D first semester and an F second semester. I am retaking chemistry next year (junior year). I am preparing by taking prep classes in the summer and getting a tutor if needed. Will retaking chemistry hurt my chances of getting into a UC? (I also had to retake first semester of Algebra 2. I got a D but when I retook it, I got an A.)

My classes for junior year are Pre-Calculus, Spanish 3, AP English 3, U.S. History (maybe APUSH) and Chemistry.

My expected capped weighted UC GPA is 3.7

My extracurricular activities are:

-I volunteered at my doctor's office for about a year.
That's pretty much it because I got a job and don't have time for any clubs, sports, or volunteer work.

Others:
-I will enroll at my local community college once I am enrolled as an 11th grader to take some business or communication classes there
-I have a job

So overall, my two questions are:

What are my overall chances of getting into UCSB? (or any UC for that matter)
Will repeating 2 high school courses hurt my chances of UC admittance?

Things to keep in mind:

-I retook first semester algebra 2. Originally got a D, but later got an A.
-I will retake chemistry my junior year.
-I am Asian
-My family is low income

Thank you for taking the time to read this and thank you for any help!
