If there's anything else you want to know just ask and please give me an honest answer! Thanks so much!

Okay a couple of things/factors:

You’re an oos, so that instantly puts you into the 18% admit range

UNC DOES not consider your choice of major in decisions (don’t believe me check the admissions website)

Get your SAT past 2100, especially reading (considering UNC is a liberal arts university); your mathematics score could be better, though. (it’s too late for EA though)

DO the supplements; absolutely crucial for your talents

MED school only considered after your sophomore year at UNC

BTW your Math Level II score isn’t stellar (the people who takes that test have averages of 750, cuz their math is super and how come your math 1 worse than math 2???)

Emphasize two areas: you interest in biology/medical stuff and your dancing expertise

Your chances are mid-reach, especially considering your oos status!

If you can, chance me too!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-north-carolina-chapel-hill/1213298-please-chance-me-unc-chapel-hill-ncsu.html</a></p>

Everything the poster said above me is pretty much true. Your SAT needs to be a 2100 at the very least for an OOS student and it’s ideal to be in the top 10% as well. Certainly don’t let this deter you from applying though!

Thanks for your opinion! I will definitely still apply and post if I get in or not!

My D is in top 10% with 2250 SAT superscore, out of sate, music major applicant, EA. She will have 8 AP classes completed by the end of her HS career (two so far with 4’s on exam), SAT Subject tests: Math 2: 740, Math 1: 710, US History: 720. Any ideas on her chances for UNC?

Honest chances: 1%

GS707: I don’t know but its definitely really good. There are no set numbers though so if you have a 2200 and are in the top 10% you are already really competitive.

Average M + CR score for out-of-state admits is 1400.

curious where you found this 1400 stat. Here it says ops 1334

[Admissions - Office of Institutional Research and Assessment](http://oira.unc.edu/facts-and-figures/student-data/admissions.html)

I’m not trying to start any trouble, I am curious if there is additional information somewhere that I am not seeing.

oos* correction

I researched this for a student at our school & now can not find the article. This is an excerp from a 2009 article from the campus newspaper that cites an overall average of 1343. Based on that, I would think OOS admits scores are significantly higher. However your link does dispute this & would appear to be the more accurate information.

“The average SAT Reasoning score (Critical Reading and Math combined) for admitted students is 1343, an increase of nine points over last year. The group includes 885 North Carolinians scoring 1400 or higher – an increase of 6 percent over last year, when 86 percent of all high-school seniors in North Carolina scoring at this level applied to Carolina”

i’m from NJ too and I applied EA. My GPA is higher; and my ACT is slightly better, but still subpar. Just write a really good essay – if you’re a good writer, it can really make a difference. I’ll give you an update in January when I get my decision to give you a better idea.

As a fellow OOS applicant to Carolina, my advice would be to make sure you have lots of other places you’d be enthusiastic about attending. Because you can sugar coat it all you want, but the fact is that only 18% of the total spots are up for grabs to OOS applicants, and that’s a miniscule number when you consider all the outstanding kids applying to UNC.

The SAT thing is a worry for me to, although I’m a little higher at 2090 (1410 Math & CR), but especially my unweighted GPA is a cause of concern. I’m only at a 3.53 (should be 3.6+ by end of 1st semester senior year though), although I did include a statement about how challenging it was to adapt from a lackluster private school to a big IB public school, and how I’ve worked harder to succeed. Also I put a lot into writing my essays.

So I don’t know, at this point my confidence in acceptance is pretty low. But I’m confident that I’d be just as happy if not more happy at my number 2 school, so I’m not all that stressed out about it.

do a fair number of oos EA applicants get in, assuming with the similar stats as this person?

Is it too late to send an email about getting athlete of the month an national honors society for ea?

No offense, but that will likely not make any difference in admissions.

Does it make a difference knowing people on the athletic board and endowment committee?

^ Unless you and/or your family is doing the endowing, probably not.

I think it is wonderful that people take the time to try to chance others but as a parent of 2 college freshman I have found that very little is clear cut. I have an OOS student at UNC and last year on these boards they said he needed to come up 100 pts on his SAT to have a shot. He did not. He never asked to be chanced, I submitted his stats bc I wanted to know if he was being realistic. He was certain that UNC was the place for him and I guess that came across in his application. He only applied to 3 schools bc he know in his heart he was going to UNC. His safe school was UM because they were recruiting him for scholarship so he knew that he could always go there if he “had” to. The moral is to always apply to your dream school and put your heart into your application and things will turn out the way the are supposed to (whether you realize it or not.) Oh yeah, and having patience helps too!
