I attend a top 60 public university, and I'm starting to think it may not be as rigorous as I wanted it to be. I'm taking a look at some better universities for my majors (econ/math).I also want to try my chances at the top LACs because I neglected them when I was applying from high school.

I just finished my first semester:

College GPA 4.0 in Calc3, Phyics 1, Writing class, philosophy, intro to engineering (was originally engineering major)
78 Credit Hrs. including AP

College ECs
Debate team
chess club
*Economics association (will do in the spring)

High School GPA 3.94/4.7 (unweighted/weighted)
SAT M 800 V 750 W 640
ACT M 33 CR 34 E 30 S 36

High School ECs
debate team captain -2nd place in state
academic team captain
chess club founder
national honors society

Any matches?

Is it even worth applying to a better school?

thanks CC

Are you a candidate for honors classes that would let you build stronger relationships with professors? If you went to LAC, would the school have enough math to keep you challenged, or would you run out of courses? Is financial aid going to be a factor; would you qualify for less/would the cost be higher elsewhere?

I don’t have answers, only questions for you to consider. If you’re a big fish in your current pond, you could have good reason to stay put and get the best rewards.

I don’t like being the big fish though. I would like to be challenged and struggle with my classes.

Does anyone have any recommendations on schools? If not, can you chance me for:

econ/math

UPenn
Swarthmore
UChicago
UVA
UMichigan

I think you are a lock for UVa and UMich. Your college gpa is perfect, hs gpa nearly perfect and standardized tests are incredible. UPenn/UChicago are probably target but you never know with those. Swarthmore I believe has a very low transfer rate as it is extremely elite and is very small. I think you will get into at least 4 of these 5 schools though.

Can you please chance me back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1434603-transfering-boston-university.html

In all honesty, you have an excellent shot at all the schools to which you’re applying. The main one to be worried about is Swathmore, with reasons being those listed above. Out all of them, I would say that UChicago is the “best fit” (with regards to your interests/scores).
