What are my odds of getting into Philips Exeter academy?

  1. Since I am an Indian student, I receive my marks in percentage. I have scored above 90% in almost all my subjects except my languages.
  2. PSAT percentile- 94 percentile in PSAT 8/9 (96 percentile in English and 88 percentile in math) and 93 percentile in PSAT NMSQT (95 percentile in English and 89 percentile in math)
  3. I came 2nd in state level of a renowned national level science quiz.
  4. I was also awarded an honorable mention in a City level MUN.
  5. I was awarded the Directors position in my school's Interact Club (community service club) whose parent club is the world renowned Rotary Club and Interact Club.
  6. I have also come 1st, 2nd and 3rd multiple times in school ranking in National Science Olympiad, International Mathematics Olympiad and National Cyber Olympiad.
  7. I also Secured the 2nd position for Mental Mathematics Competition in my School.
  8. My essays seem to be fine.

The only problem I am facing right now is that my current Math teacher is not going to write a good letter of recommendation for me, just because she never writes anyone a good LOR. Is that going to be a big problem?

You have a shot but you are in a very competitive applicant pool so it is very hard for people to accurately chance you.

As for lor, yes I personally think they matter a lot as they are supposed to speak to what kind of student you are. If you really think it will be a problem your parents should have a meeting with your math teacher to discuss the situation.

We had a similar issue with the principal/counselor rec. I set up a meeting with the principal and talked it through. In my opinion this is a parent matter and not a student matter and you need to get your parents involved.

@one1ofeach Thank you for your suggestion. I am hope my math teacher will understand my situation but my school is infamous for doing things to prevent it’s students from leaving and joining other school.

Your application looks pretty good, although there are some things I was wondering-

  1. do you have any non math/science related extracurriculars (arts, sports, etc). Exeter and most other schools would probably be looking for that.
  2. Which grade are you applying to? some are easier to get into than others. Judging from the fact you took PSAT, I'm guessing 11th or 12th grade, right?
  3. Have you had the interview yet? How did it go?

I do Poster making and I have won an award for one of my poster on proper energy usage, but it is not something which I do regularly.

I am applying for the 11th grade.

I have not given any interview yet.
