What are my odds of transferring into UT Computer Science?

I’m about to finish my first semester of engineering at A&M and I’ve decided that I want to transfer. I got capped when I applied in high school and decided to go with A&M because it’s a good school for engineering and it’s closer to home (Houston, TX). After a year, A&M’s fine but every time I go to Austin I fall in love with the city and see myself fitting in there a lot more.

Right now I have a 3.23 in engineering at A&M which will hopefully go up after this semester, I got a 1500/1600 on the SAT in high school and still have a ton of AP/DC transfer credits. I really want to live in Austin but not at the cost of my education, so the computer science program sounds like the best option for me. What are my odds of getting in and what could I do to help my chances?

Transfer admission rates are generally lower than those for Freshmen. If you did not get into UT last year, your odds are even lower as a transfer student. You also state that your only choice is to change to CS but you want to be an engineer, right? It seems a bit misguided to choose a less favored major simply to go live in Austin for 3 years.

Looking at it more globally, you only need to be at A&M for three more years and then you will be getting a job as an engineer somewhere else. That could be Austin if you like or it could be an even better place to live.
