what are my odds?

I’m a junior from Puerto Rico planning on majoring in Statistics/Mathematics and possibly International Relations/Political Science. I speak 3 languages (Spanish, English, and Italian)

  1. W GPA - 4.13
  2. UW GPA - no clue
  3. My classes have been the following (these are all the most rigorous courses my school has to offer): -Freshman year: Honors English, Honors Spanish, Honors Geometry, World History, Biology, Ethics, Italian I -Sophomore: Honors English, Honors Spanish, Honors Algebra II, PR History, Chemistry, Ethics, Italian II -Junior: AP English Lit, AP US History, Honors Pre Calculus, Honors Spanish, Physics, Ethics, Italian III, Graphic Design -Senior: AP English Lang, AP Comparative Gov't and Pol, AP Calculus AB, AP Biology, Honors Spanish, Ethics, Italian IV *I also took research seminars in freshman and sophomore years (I received 2nd place in the Regional Science fair in freshman year)
  4. I've participated in Model UN, Math Club, National Honor Society, Science Club, and Broadcast Journalism and I've won awards in the first four. I was honorary member of my class council in sophomore year and will be again next year.
  5. My March SAT's are 660-Writing, 680-CR, 760-Math / 2100 total, I'm planning on retaking it in October and raising my score to 2250
  6. I took the APUSH and APLit AP tests, still waiting for my scores; I plan on taking the APCalc, APCGP, APLang, and AP Statistics tests next year
  7. Currently 3/104 in my class, possibly getting to #2 by the end of Senior Year

My current college list includes: Columbia University, UPenn, Cornell, Boston University, Northwestern, NYU, University of Richmond

That’s about it… to which ones in my list could I get in? Are there any others I should consider? I’d like to stay within the Northeast and Great Lakes regions

Thanks

What is your GPA out of? How can you have an unweighted GPA of 4.13?

Whoops, UW-no clue, Weighted 4.13

Your SATs are a little low for some of the very competitive schools you mentioned. Also, your EC’s are pretty generic and you don’t have many leadership positions, work/community service experience, or do anything particularly extraordinary that would make you stand out at the top schools.

Columbia- reach
UPenn- reach
Cornell- reach
BU- match? Don’t know much about it tbh
Northwestern- reach
NYU- high match
Richmond- match

You should consider looking at some smaller liberal arts colleges in New England like Swarthmore, Middlebury, Wesleyan, etc.

What’s your weighted GPA out of? 5? Also I’d figure out your UW GPA as that’s pretty important. Regardless, with the info given, I’d say NYU, Boston, and URichmond look like pretty good odds. The rest are toss ups.

@CCuser528 #3, you comment that the OP’s list of schools includes a lot of reaches, then you go on to list a number of comparable, or even higher reaches.

@urbanslaughter
I never said the colleges I mentioned weren’t also reaches. I simply suggested other schools she should look at. Also, though the colleges I mentioned are VERY competitive, they are less of a reach than the Ivy’s.

@CCuser528, sorry but that’s my point. Every year kids who are admitted to Ivies are rejected by Swarthmore, Middlebury, and Wesleyan. I can name numerous friends who were about to take a spot at an Ivy, but ended up at one of those LACs when they were finally admitted off the wait list.

@gdlt234 My W GPA is out of 5 on AP courses and 4.5 on Honors Courses.

I ask about my chances because I have friends in college that were admitted to Ivies with similar stats as mine (most were top of their class, had successful and award-winning investigations, took the same classes as me, and had similar or slightly lower SAT scores), and there are some with even better qualifications that didn’t get in.
