What are my options?

I'm currently a graduating senior at JHU, I was very i'll advised and commuted all 4 years, I majored in Public Health that had integrated pre-med requirements. I did not do as well as I would've liked and I do believe that my commuting arrangement for 4 years was basically the catalyst for a series of bad decisions and behavior that harmed my undergrad experience and more importantly my GPA. I have a GPA around 2.7 and will not be able to improve greatly it by the end of the semester despite continuing on an upward trend for the last 3 years. As part of my major I've taken a semester worth of graduate classes and have managed to get a 3.22 GPA in those classes. I just want to get a general feeling for what my options could be for grad school.

I plan on working and studying part time this coming fall to have some graduate non-degree courses with strong marks that will demonstrate my abilities better. Hopefully applying for a graduate program in Biochemistry or Microbiology for spring or fall enrollment in 2013. I haven't taken the GRE's but will diligently study for them so I hope to have a solid and strong score on those. I guess I would base my range of schools from Columbia School of Public Health (they don't state a min limit of GPA requirement) and I guess CSU. If anyone has any knowledge how difficult UMD or UMBC admissions are on GPA's I would appreciate the perspective.

From the experience of my friends the public health programs are significantly easier to get into than say an M.S. program in some other fields, and worlds easier than PhD programs. Therefore, you should be able to get into a reasonably good program even with that GPA, as long as you have everything else (essays, scores, recommendations, etc) very solid. Having gone to JHU definitely helps. Don’t be afraid to shoot for the moon with the best programs, there’s nothing to lose. Good luck!
