MT programs can be divided into audition-based and non-audition-based. For audition-based programs, you must meet the minimum requirements for entry into the school, your resume and grades will matter to some degree (it varies with different programs), but, for the most part, your acceptance will depend on your audition.

Most audition-based programs are highly competitive for entry, with some among the most difficult college programs to enter (with acceptance rates less than Ivy League schools for some programs, the odds are probably similar to competitive athletic programs). Just as no one could tell you what your odds would be for an athletic program unless they are professionals in the field and see you play, it is impossible for anyone on CC to “chance me” and give you an idea of your competitiveness for various audition-based MT programs. For that, you should seek advice from knowledgeable theatre professionals who can watch you perform in a typical audition setting and help you assess your chances.

The requirements and odds for entry into non-audition programs would be the same as entry into the school for any other major.

There is tons of great information on this forum to help you learn about the process. A solid place to start would be this thread:

You can find lists of schools in these two threads:

“Chance me” threads usually do not get much traction here on the MT forum.
