So my story goes as follows. I didn’t really care much through high school and went to a CUNY school and got pretty bad grades for 2 years. So I decided to restart last semester at a community college and I’m doing relatively well. (Got a 3.6 taking 17 math and science credits(mostly)). This semester I’m pretty sure I’ll finish with a 4.0 term GPA because I’m doing really well in my classes and I’m pretty sure that’ll be the case until I graduate next year. I’d like to transfer to a good 4 year school and finish up my engineering BS there. What are my chances of getting into an ivy league like Cornell? Or good state schools like UB and Binghampton? Am I being too ambitious by looking at Ivy’s? I need direction! Please and thanks.
I think people need more context; for Ivy Leagues, it may be important to list test scores, extracurriculars, essays, recommendations, etc. Schools this selective tend to consider many things, including the high school experience. With that being said, with an upward trend, you may have a shot of getting into selective universities. Good luck!
Are you at a CC in NY State? Then you need to sit down with the transfer advisor and talk about pathways to Cornell and the various SUNYs. Bring all of your transcripts from your time at CUNY. Those will count too, and your advisor will need to look at them.
Thanks. My SATs were horrible. I don’t really remember them, but they’re bad. I know a couple of professors who have and would write me great recommendations. For extracurriculars, I’m pretty active on campus but I work part time so I’m not really part of a club. I don’t know if this helps but I’ve been accepted to a program at Barnard college where I dorm there for 5 weeks in the summer and take 2 rigorous science courses. After that, I’m free to take 3 classes at Columbia or Barnard. I’m thinking if I can take a science course and do well at an Ivy that’ll help.
Also, I am at a CC in NY & I will do that! I didn’t think about that thanks.
Bump. Would like more advice.
