What are my UC Chances?

My number one school is Davis, and I am planning to apply as a chemistry major. I know a great deal of this seems far-fetched but I’m hoping that my improvement and personal insight question responses will be enough.

To add, I am applying to UC Davis, UC San Diego, UC Riverside, UC Irvine, and UC Santa Cruz in addition to some CSUs.

UC GPA is below average for all the UC’s on your list but shows an upward trend. UC’s happen to be very GPA focused. Your SAT score is within range. Your essays will probably the deciding factor and your EC’s show some leadership which is a plus. No AP classes until Senior will impact your chances since 10-11th grades are the most important in the UC GPA calculation. Your chances are also dependent upon your intended major.

UCR/UCSC: Match
UCI: High Match
UCD: High Match/Low Reach
UCSD: Reach
CSU’s? Probably Match-Safety

Any chance you can take summer school to bump up your GPA a bit??

Good Luck

I’m taking summer school for a D in English 1st semester of freshman year. My UC GPA would be about 3.74, unweighted would be 3.27, and weighted would be 3.32.

The D in Freshman English is not calculated into your UC GPA, so it will not make a difference for your GPA.

I stand by my chances based on your Stats, but your essays and EC’s will be considered in your application package but these are too subjective to determine how they will be received by admissions. If you have some CSU’s on your list along with UCR and UCSC, you should several choices come Spring next year.

You can use the following link to see the % of Freshman admits in your GPA range.
For 2015 at UCD, only 8% admit rate for a UC GPA of 3.40-3.79.

Thank you for chancing me and for the link! I’ve been looking for something like that for awhile but I hadn’t been able to find it.

Bumping this with my SAT Score:

Total: 1370
CR&W: 720
Math: 650

Individual Scores:
Critical Reading: 35
Writing: 37
Math: 32.5

gpa matters A LOT for UCs. i’d say it is a reach to get into davis,

Yeah I know Davis is a reach, but I’m still hopeful.
