What are our chances? -- For Everyone, Important read.

So last year (Junior Year) I took a class with a EXTREMELY smart admissions director every Wednesday for the entire school year and he basically said, every student who is Class of 2010 (HS) is going to have a hard time because of the economy. He said money is going to be important and significant tipping factors for the "rich" and the "poor" are going to struggle. He also said students witht he 75 GPA's are even going to have a hard time getting into CUNY schools as their admissions requirements will be more strict.

So basically, what I want to discuss is, do you think we will all have it hard next year? I'm really, really worried. The year we go to college is the year we have it hard! Life is unfair! lol

Many colleges practice need-blind admissions. Really, they do. I think the most pressing issue is that financial aid will be more competitive, so while people are just as likely to be admitted, less will attend due to financial concerns. This actually presents an interesting opportunity; I read in the New York Times’ recent article on top colleges that they are likely to admit more students. I wouldn’t be too worried about it right now; maybe if the economy got REALLY bad, my views might change.

That’s true. Getting in can be dandy but when financial aid rears its ugly head, that’s what deters students from attending the school. A friend of mine got into BU but didn’t go because the FinAid sucked; she ended up going to Fordham Uni b/c their aid was better.
