I have a friend that is illegal but really wants to attend college but he can't seem to find any college that can use some kind of fund to help him. so if you know a college/university that can accept illegal immigrants then comment on so i can tell him to apply before its too late.

No school will give him financial aid. You need a social security number for the FAFSA; he doesn't have one.

he may be able to apply as an international, no FAFSA though.

man. he is really smart. can he get a merit aid or something?

No- you definitely need to be a citizen for merit aid. Sorry. I am sure he will do just as well in his own country!

I believe Berea in Kentucky accepts them. I know of one such student who got a full ride even without documentation of legal residence. I don't know if the program is still in place. Good luck.

The University of California schools don't require you to be an American citizen I believe.

just tell him to apply for school aid as an international
if hes applying to ivies, he can still get FA... jjust only fill out CSS or whatever ea school requires.

Your friend needs to apply to college as an international and to look at private colleges. There are some states though that will count you as an instate student for state schools if you attended high school in the state.

While internationals can not get Federal aid, that's a small part of aid at private schools. If he is smart as in having good stats, he can get institutional aid. Post his stats on the international board for specific college ideas.

Some of the very top schools including several ivies and top LACs are need blind for internationals and meet 100% of need, so if he has great stats he's in the best shape.

It might be easier to start at a community college. In California, the fees for community college are low and most students can support themselves through it without financial aid.

Some private liberal arts colleges will probably accept him. I know there are some in New York that do.

You do not need to be a citizen to obtain financial aid. Rather, you need a social security number, meaning that residency is the only requirement.

Tell him to apply as an international!

hopefully none.

Ummm... Don't colleges have to have confirmation that the students' Visa status is correct? I mean some people not enter the US due to restrictions by the US State Dept. I'd think that due diligence by most schools would require at least a submission of the student visa for internationals, no? Just wondering.

Yes, several colleges have recently asked me to fax/e-mail them my green card as confirmation.

If You're an immigrant without SSN and any other documentation

at least in Cali, I know some UCs and Cal States DO NOT GIVE financial aid, but they do respect in-state tuition.

Yeah in-state for illegals. There was story about this illegal girl in San Pedro who was accepted to UCLA with instate tuition.
