What are some colleges to start from?

Hi
I’m planning on studying in the US as of now as an international student.
My American High School’s (which I attended for over 2 years) GPA isn’t the highest… around 3.4,
and my SAT isn’t the highest either… around 1330. With TOEFL being higher (110) but I don’t think that would do me overwhelmingly good.

I’m hoping to get into a doable college (not on the top but still okay) that has some solid Journalism or International Relations programs. And hopefully transfer from there to a reach school in about two years.
So, here the question goes: What colleges could I get into with the stats above, that would consider giving me some amount of scholarships(need based or if they offer FA to international students, that’s also great), that have some sold programs I mentioned above?

Every time I google colleges related to the majors, I only see ‘top’ or ‘best’ schools on the list.
I need some real knowledges from people who live and have heard about the schools.

Please help! Thanks in advance.

How much can you afford? FA for internationals is skimpy at best and your stats are not going to get you significant merit.
Define your budget first.

Good point. Actual cost I could afford would be around 10,000 a year which is not a lot… I’m just hoping to get some scholarships from the school (which I also know would not be a lot) and from my country.

Hi! Have you tried looking at LACs? They are need-aware but most of them like Amherst, Vassar and Williams provide really generous FA and don’t place so much emphasis on test scores

There are a lot of universities in the US. A GPA of 3.4 with 1330 SAT is higher than the average US student and will get you into many decent universities. However, it will not get you into the top ranked universities, and will not get you into the few universities that guarantee to meet full need for international students.

Your TOEFL of 110 makes the point that your English is fine, and will not be a problem. I don’t see this as helping you in any way other than taking away one concern and putting you on an equal footing with people who have English as their primary language.

As such I think that the biggest problem is going to be to find a university that you can afford. I would expect this to be very difficult, and I do not know whether it will be possible.

If you are getting outside aid from your government (you mentioned country?) and if you can afford 10K, there seems to be a new program at Fordham for internationals: https://www.fordham.edu/info/25342/international_students
