I'm 18, but truthfully I don't really like being around people in the 18-20 age range. This might sound weird, but I tend to get along better with people who are over 21. Most of my friends are 21-23, so I was wondering if anyone knew of any good colleges where the majority of the students were older?

Large universities would probably have higher average age ranges than smaller schools and LACs. Commuter schools in particular.

Look for commuter schools. The older people won’t be living in the dorm, though.

I agree with the posters above - try to stick to commuter schools. I went back to school in my 30’s at a commuter campus and there were many students in their mid-20’s up into their 40’s. I didn’t feel out of place at all. Of course, there were plenty of students 18-24 as well - and I think having older students in the classrooms tended to keep the juvenile behavior that you’re trying to avoid to a minimum.

Schools like USC that have more graduate students than undergraduate students will likely have most students age 21 or over.

Other than that, schools with heavy commuter and local student populations as others have mentioned.

Dunno of any good ones that are a majority over 21, but a lot of big state colleges will usually have some older students. Commuter schools (only one I can think of is CSU Fullerton) will also have older students.

@ ladeeda6: unless they’re transfer students who decide to live in the dorms. A lot of transfer students tend to be in the 21-23 age range.

I don’t know of many good school with a majority over 21, but the larger the school, the more 21+ people there will be, and you can meet them like you’d meet anyone else at school.

University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. Tons of grad students, continuing ed students and there are 80-year olds in most of my classes.

Larger university as a whole will have a good number of students 21 and over. More so if they have a strong graduate program. True, a substantial amount of students move off of campus their 2nd year, even more junior. I know at USF they have a 21 and over community on campus, apartment style housing. For obvious reasons, they try to keep Freshmen housing as separate from upperclassmen as possible.
