What are some cool GE's

I am planning on taking my core course, a math class and a GE.
I have no idea what GE I should take and I want to choose a few to have back ups.
I am majoring in science so all those GEs will already be fulfilled with my major.
So what should I take??

If it is open, I suggest you take BME 80H: The Human Genome.
It is SUPER easy as long as you do the homework (which is coincidentally the easiest part) and take the notes she gives us during lecture. It fulfills a Topical requirement, which unles your core course fulfills it, you’ll need regardless of your major.
Also, this may only be offered Spring quarter, but I highly suggest HIST 80Y: WWII Memories in Japan and US.

Anyone else have any good GE course recommendations? Finding courses to do with my major are simple enough, but GE’s tend to be all over the place.

You’ll want to take CMPE 3: Personal Computers. The easiest A you’ll ever get and it fulfills IN.

Also try a Music class such as MUSC 11 or 80 or something, those are always fun.

I’ve taken so many computer science classes over the years, haha.

I’ve added both the genome and computer science courses to my cart for wednesday. Hopefully I get a spot.

Itisme, the GE you meant was IM right? And rectangleshorts, do you know for sure which GE that course qualifies for? The SI requirement I’ve done because of AP Bio.

For transfers, is there an easy way to tell what GE’s you’ve completed and what you need?

@Phantom: Is IM one of the new requirements? Itisme was referring to the IN (old GE-requirement). CMPE 3 is a really easy class and a great grade booster and so is Music 80 with Lieberman.

@crummy: Don’t you have your IGETC completed? If not, you need to use the articulation agreement on Assist.org. Just pull up the agreement with your CC and UCSC, then go to “For General Education/Breadth.” I don’t believe it’s updated with the new GE requirements though. Or you can play the waiting game and wait till they put all that info up in your MyUCSC portal (if they haven’t already).

@phantombman. They changed the names of the GE requirement for this upcoming school year so I’m confused about what is what. But personal computers was IN for me. Can even be a topical too

Ah damn. Here’s the new codes:

I’m gonna try to do some more research tomorrow to see what satisfies what.

If you are looking for ridiculously easy classes:

-Music80_ with Lieberman… When I took his class, He gave 90+% of the class A’s, and as far as I am aware, he still does. Any of his classes are guaranteed A’s.

-BME80H with Rothwell… She is really sweet and you actually learn a lot. It is a bio class… so you just need to memorize concepts

If you are looking for classes with a bit more substance but still worthwhile:

-BME5 with Rothwell… Definitely a bit more involved than BME80H, but well worth it. I learned a whole lot about cutting edge devices and ideas in the medical field.

-Musc80 Jewish music… It’s a good class because it satisfies three GEs (E, A, and a topical). It is not TERRIBLY interesting (coming from a fan of all music), but you get to learn about a culture that you probably would not learn about otherwise. Just a forewarning, it is a lefty class. Then again, I’m a moderate and I enjoyed it. I guarantee that this is the best/easiest class with three GEs. Warning: Do not take African American Music with Karlton H. I have only heard bad things about this class (Yes, I know this class offers three GEs as well).

Jewish music sounds actually pretty cool (my family has a long history of Jewish roots, I am Jewish myself)

If I can just figure out what the E, A, and topical qualify for in this year’s GE requirements, I’ll actually be pretty excited to take that.

Great info Trumpet, thanks
