No, not chess, and not mindless slaughter games like Call of Duty. I want to play some strategic wargames that require the formation of appropriate military strategies. Does anyone on CC know such games, or any games the US military employs to train its troops? Thank you, I appreciate it.

Aren’t you engaged in one right now?

RTS: Starcraft is the only one worth mentioning B), but it’s not pure strategy, being real time. It’s more about awareness and execution.

Turn based strategy:
Might wanna try Civ5. Isn’t Warhammer40k a turn-based game?

Personally I think Outpost 2 is the best RTS I’ve seen.

For RTS games, check out Rise of Nations (I cannot stress that game’s excellence enough).

For FPS games, try something like Operation Flashpoint, America’s Army, or First to Fight. First to Fight is really old, but when I used to play it I remember thinking about how realistic it felt (not that I know what a warzone feels like).

Let me just say, though, that Call of Duty is not mindless unless you let it be. You can employ a lot of strategy in that game - and I don’t mean camping - that really enhances gameplay.

P.S. - Judging by your username I have reason to believe you are ■■■■■■■■, but nevertheless I’ll leave this post as is. If you are ■■■■■■■■, that is one sick joke.

War games are for fools. Real men come up with one on their own, through experience.

Just take over a small country and invade a weaker neighbor. Or a stronger neighbor; that would be totally unexpected.

Oh, and if you were thinking more in terms of practical training rather than entertainment, I highly recommend Stalin vs. Martians.

The Total War series have pretty realistic battles.

Also, you could try this at your school

StarCraft 2.

Is Defcon any good at all?

RTS: Starcraft II (macro-intensive)

RTS/RPG: Warcraft III (micro-intensive)

I’ve heard good things about EVE Online, too.

If you want to take a look at some SC2 gameplay, go to http://www.gomtv.net/ and take a look at some of the videos. World Championships going on right now. They’re pretty damn epic.

This one is free: League of Legends
It’s fairly new and gets many updates.
I don’t play it but many of my friends do.

Starcraft 2… very intensive… I LOVE THIS

Tom Clancy’s End War. Never played it but it’s a modern RTS. Looks cool.

Civilization 5 is REALLY FUN. It can be casual or intensive depending on your preferences.

Company of Heroes series. This is a WWII RTS

Supreme Commander. Futuristic RTS
Command and Conquer. Futuristic RTS. I’ve never played these 2 since they look too generic.

Pokemon is pretty good and strategic. Check it out.

League of Legends, people :D

Oh, sure, we use th-- Wait a second… Nice try, Gaddafi!

we use runescape to train our soldiers

^We must eat more lobsters!

OT: Is there any debate that Starcraft/Starcraft 2 are the best “strategic wargames?”

meh, well, there’s RUSE, but my attention span expired on its loading screen

apart from starcraft 2, RTS is a dying genre. Also, playing against the AI almost NEVER exercises your strategy because you can always use artificial strategies to beat the AI - strategies that no human player will fall for. Building hordes and hordes of walls, for example. Or getting them to chase cavalry archers that just use hit-and-run.
