My GPA is sitting at about a 4.01 weighted, and ~3.47 unweighted. I made a 29 on the ACT and a 1830 on the SATs (retaking again this saturday, hoping to do much better)
I dont have a particularly huge amount of extracurriculars, but I am in NHS, a club or two, and participate in my community.

My interests are in some sort of engineering (aerospace?) or in computer science. GA tech has a computated media major which combines CS with digital media courses, something I am greatly interested in.
I really want to go to GA tech but I am not really sure where I stand in terms of chance of getting in. Where else should I apply? I'm not sure I want to do flat out computer science as there are few jobs that really appeal to me in terms of software programming. Im also considering applications to UCLA and Case Western Reserve...Where else should I apply? thanks!

Have you checked the net price calculators at each of the schools to see if you can afford them?

OOS publics are expensive and don’t give much/any aid.

How much will your parents pay each year?

What is your home state?

Answer to 1:

~$0

Answer to 2:
North Carolina

If your parents can’t/won’t pay anything, then take off UCLA, GTech, and any other OOS public. They won’t give you the aid you need, and you won’t be able to pay the bill. Those OOS publics charge high OOS rates for a reason. Your parents don’t pay taxes there. It would be silly to charge high OOS rates and then cover those rates with need based aid.

FYI…YOU can only borrow $5500 for frosh year, so if you’re thinking of borrowing your costs, you won’t be able to. Borrowing more requires QUALIFED cosigners. If your parents can’t pay anything, then likely they can’t qualify to cosign. Borrowing more is a horrible idea anyway.

Your best bet is NC State.

You can’t just be concerned about “where will I get in.” You have to be concerned with “how will the bill get paid.” Even if somehow you were admitted to GT, they’d give you a $40k+ bill every year.

If you get your SAT up a LOT higher, then some other public schools may give you huge merit scholarships…but you would need a REALLY big merit scholarship that covers nearly all costs.

If you get your SAT up a lot, then you might get accepted to a private that meets full need.
