What are some good accredited schools for Fashion or Costume Design?

I have a friend whose daughter is graduating from UVA. She wants to go to graduate school in fashion design or costume design. What schools have an MFA in Fashion or Costume Design?

I should note that I have already told them about Parsons and Pratt Institute and Otis College of Design. They also want an accredited university. I was thinking of RISD,but they don't seem to have a graduate program.

Also, are there any program rankings for fashion design.

Thanks for your help.

It is not a university, but CalArts offers an MFA in Costume Design.

Fashion and Costume Design are two different routes (which is why my daughter is transferring).

I don't know what schools offer an MFA in Fashion Design. I would guess the usual suspects: Parsons, Pratt and FIT. I have never seen program rankings for Fashion Design, only many articles mentioning the above three. New York City is a good place to be for internships in the fashion field.

USITT.org has a list of all schools offering MFA Costume Design.

Look here and you will see which independent art colleges have fashion (and every other major), and at what level.

I have appreciated the info exchanged here. I have a D who intends to concentract on costuming and/or fashion design, somehow she combines this with a desire to go to school in Ireland or England. Anybody have any knowledge on this?

Thanks

Mackinaw, FIDER is for interior design accreditation. This post deals with fashion design.

Yeah, I blew a mindfuse somewhere along the line.

none of the new york design schools have a mfa in fashion. The only school I know of that has a MFA in fashion design is Savannah College of Art & Design. Central St Martins in England has one.

Fashion schools that I know of in the UK are:
Central Saint Martins
College of Fashion
which are both under the "umbrella" University of the Arts

Have you decided if you are going to Parsons or not?

Mauretania

The site you posted is great. Thanks for the info. Now if I can just find out which school is next to a links golf course, life will be good.

Nope not yet, do you think it would be wrong to send deposits to two schools? I don't think I'll be able to make my final choice until after I finish the summer intensive at Parsons, that way I'll really see if I really like Parsons or not, and if I dont then I can always come back in time to start at my second choice Otis.

I remember reading last year, that other students paid deposits for more than one school mainly to secure housing. Even though my D's deposit was sent around this time, last year, she was still assigned
(temporary) housing at the Salvation Army. Which made me think they assign housing in order of completed applications/acceptance. My D applied in January of last year and interviewed in February.

You should check with Parsons (and Otis) to see what the deadlines are for housing.

Boston University offers an MFA in costume design http://www.bu.edu/cfa/theatre/programs/mfa/index.htm.
