I’m going into my junior year and I want to start visiting a few schools. I just need the cost of attendance to not be more than 25k a year… I live in New Jersey so public schools in NJ seem to be great options here. But I really don’t want to stay in state. I liked the Massachusetts area, but I’m open for anything.

In state schools are the ones with the guaranteed low prices.

In general, avoid out of state publics and seek private schools that will give good aid. SUNY schools have good out of state prices, but not as low as 25K.) Similarly, less populous states like WY and NM can give good prices for OOS. (Close to, but still above, 25K after merit.mIf by Massachusetts you mean Boston, that’s a tough town for finding college bargains.

Learn your family’s EFC at the college board EFC estimator. If your budget is close to your EFC, seek schools that are generous with need based aid, otherwise seek schools that are generous with merit aid.

New Jersey has a wide variety of experiences, from schools close to the shore and Philly to schools close to Manhattan. If you’re looking for affordable, staying in state is probably your best option.

You can always go snowboarding in MA during winter break.

Do you have any idea what you want to major in?

AT the very beginning, take a look at all sorts of schools-- small liberal arts (Centenary College for example, off Rte 80), larger state schools, really mix it up. You’ll find that you start to know what it is you’re looking for; that can help to narrow down your list a bit.

Go to NJ for undergrad and move to Mass for grad school. Or take advantage of the National Student Exchange Program and attend a Massachusetts school for one or two semesters. Your GPA will make admission into a computer science with merit money tricky unless/possibly you hit it out of the park on SATs. If you do that check out WPI. You can always attend a school like WPI for grad school though.
