What are some good colleges for me based on my stats and description? I really want to get out of TN

My stats are Gpa:3.75 ACT: 25 Extracurriculars: music and YouTube
What are some potential schools for me? I’m looking for schools that are also ethnically diverse. I’ve had a horrid experience living in Tennessee. I’ve been severely bullied throughout school for my dark skin complexion. I just wanna be in a place where I can feel welcomed for once.

How about some more details about: budget, need for aid, academic interests, and preferences for size of school, location (city, suburban. small town), and vibe (Greek life? LGBTQ friendly?). We can be more helpful with more to work with. Also, any schools (even if reaches) that have caught your eye? If you like X, we can help think of “Like X” options.

@Itisatruth budget 20-25k a year. in need for financial aid. preferably in california or texas. can also be any state in the north east. LGBTQ friendly? doesn’t matter. reaches: none for right now. preferably suburban or city.

Ok, your task now is to grab a Fiske Guide or look through the Princeton Review online and pick 2 Texas schools, 2 California schools and 2 NE schools that sound like a fit and RUN THE NET PRICE CALCULATOR for all 6. With your financial need, it’s important to start narrowing the list by places that are financially do-able. You don’t seem to have a lot of other requirements, so go with places that can meet your need or you can get good merit.

Are you African American? Are you interested in HBCUs?
What do you want to study? School size?
Have you run any Net Price Calculators yet and how did the net prices compare to your budget?

Congratulations on your hard work and success in high school! Sorry about the challenges, high school can be rough, luckily people develop out of much of that behavior.

It sounds like you have some strong financial support AND many schools will still be expensive if private or OOS. What are some options though? Maybe look at Universities of New Mexico and Arizona and Arizona State and New Mexico State. Excellent national universities, diverse student populations. You mentioned Texas, and these are also southwest, if you count TX as southwest). They give money to OOS students, and you will probably qualify for some aid. For example, check out OOS (non-resident) aid for a couple of the schools,

https://scholarship.unm.edu/scholarships/non-resident.html

https://fa.nmsu.edu/scholarships/

https://scholarships.asu.edu/estimator

I put in your 25 ACT and 3.75 in the ASU estimator and it came back at $28,300 for your freshman year with a scholarship. You can calculate for that and the others.

You can run the net price calculator (NPC) for any that look appealing.

Or, if you like AZ, see if working in AZ for a year will get you in-state tuition. If so, you could go work at the Grand Canyon for a year. Xanterra is the concessionaire and hires for hotels, restaurants, shops, etc. It provides employee housing and subsidized food. That would work in other states as well. For example, work at Yosemite or another CA national park for a year and get CA in-state status (You have to check to see the requirement for specific states and/or schools; don’t trust that you will get it for working there a year, though I think that would generally work.) Then you could afford to go to any CA public university where you are admitted, though there is a lot of competition for many of them. Lots of choices though.

Good luck!

In another thread you said your parents earn $60k/year. How would they be able to pay $25k/year? Have you asked them what their budget is? You can only borrow ~$5500/year (~$27k total) on your own, so you need to discuss finances with them and set a realistic budget.

As you were told in other threads, CA publics cost $60k/year so they won’t be affordable, but I don’t know about their private schools. Start running the Net Price Calculator for each school you’re interested in to see if they’re affordable.

Yes, this doesn’t make much sense. WHAT are your parents saying about how much they’ll pay each year. Please ask them.

Are you African American?

As for wanting to get out of Tenn, you may be limited by what you can afford. What part of Tenn do you live? East? Middle? West?
Not all of Tenn is the same. Are you in a part of Tenn where there are few people of color?

Tenn is a very long state with a different atmosphere in each region.

I quickly read your other posts/threads.

It’s November and you have an unrealistic list. If you don’t add some realistic schools, you’re going to have a handful of acceptances and no funding to attend.

What part of Tenn do you live?

Please ask your parents how much they pay each year. With that modest income, they may have to tell you that they can only contribute a few thousand each year, at best.

Ask them and come back here and tell us so we can help you form a realistic list.

One good option in Texas is UTSA. It has a very high minority population. San Antonio has a very well-deserved reputation for being friendly and accepting. If you’re on a budget of $25k, it should fall within that limit. You could also consider UTEP. It’s a little less expensive than UTSA.

What about test optional schools? Especially if you are a URM, you might try Dickinson in PA. They meet 99% of need and are test optional.
