You have not included enough information to help others provide you with useful information. Take a look at some of the “chance” posts to see what is normally included. Then add to your post so others can help.

Budget? What can you and your family afford to pay each year?
HS course rigor?
SAT breakdown?
Intended major?
Small/Medium/Large school?
Private/Public/Religious?
Geographical Preferences?
SAT II subject tests?

Ok I’ll be more specific

Your 25 ACT is like 1210 SAT, according to the concordance tables.

In-state, would your GPA and ACT score give you a good chance for the non-UIUC publics (e.g. UIC, ISU, SIU)?

Out-of-state public universities are unlikely to give financial aid, so you would be looking at out-of-state list price.

CSUs in California are barely within $40,000 per year for out-of-state students; your stats (depending on how your GPA ends up when recalculated by the CSU method) would likely get you into the non-impacted ones (Bakersfield, Channel Islands, Dominguez Hills, San Francisco) and give you a chance at the less impacted other ones (but not the most impacted ones like San Luis Obispo, San Jose, San Diego, Long Beach). But many of them are mostly commuter schools.

In Arizona, Northern Arizona is about $41,000 per year for out-of-state students, while Arizona State and University of Arizona are more expensive. They are not hard to get admitted to, but some majors like computer science and computer engineering may be more selective.

Some state universities in Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi may be under $40,000 per year for out-of-state students.

Out of state in California is going to cost you if you attempt the public schools, so I would take those off of the list. The UC’s do not provide funding for non-residents, so you would be expected to pay $65K per year. The CSU’s would be $40K per year.

Unfortunately, your GPA, SAT and ACT scores are not competitive for those schools, as an OOS resident.

You may want to try some of the private schools. Your hook, as an AA male, is attractive to the private schools that seek diversity.

Look at the ‘Institute of Tech’ schools - Illinois Institute of Technology, Florida, Indiana. Your hook as an AA will be very attractive to them and you might get more merit aid than at public schools with engineering.

I would check out the University of Toledo. Good engineering program, you fit its engineering profile, it requires a coop which can help defray costs and the campus is suburban and has kind of Gothic in feel.

What is your weighted? Think they use weighted.

They use a metric. If you apply today and get over something like 255 for out of state it’s an auto admit. Great school and great engineering program. Lots of Illinois kids.

Check out Illinois Institute of Technology also and maybe University of Illinois - Chicago https://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg01_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=980

Check Naviance if your school uses it.

I second the Southern Illinois suggestions.

Also, Here is a link to a recent article from the Wall Street Journal about private colleges that match in-state tuition, or public universities that either do not differentiate between in-state and OOS students for tuition purposes, or match the in-state tuition rates for public universities for OOS applicants: https://www.wsj.com/articles/in-race-for-students-colleges-offer-to-match-tuition-at-rival-schools-1535972400. There are some schools listed here that may be a basis for your consideration.

1160 SAT(560 reading, 600 math)
Home state Illinois
Thinking about any distance at this time
Budget is gonna be around 20,000-40,000
In high school I mainly took honors courses with a few AP courses sprinkled in (Human Geo and Physics), but sadly no 3 and above scores yet . I am currently in AP physics 2, AP comp science, and AP college engineering. Also throughout high-school I have also taken several Project Lead The Way classes.
Major Interests:Computer Engineering, and Computer Science
School Size: Medium to Large
Public Schools are my top priority, but I wouldn’t mind a private school
Geographical Preferences: In-state is fine, but I would like to have some warmer weather out-of-state options also.(Cali)(Arizona)(Southeast)
Thanks ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

FYI
I have applied to and got in to both Iowa State and the University of Iowa for Computer Engineering and Computer Science
I consider these my safety schools

Good. Iowa State is a great engineering school. Know many that graduated there with 2-3 job offers before graduation one of the largest engineering fairs also. Plus it’s a fun atmosphere.

Look into UMaine as a possibility. They match your instate uni tuition, and your stats would be eligible for that.
