What are some good "match" colleges for me

Here are my stats

I have good dream colleges and good safe college, but don't have anything in between.

I haven't choose my major but will likely go engineering or finance.
So good engineering school or liberal art school would be nice.

PS: I think when someone says "match", that means my stats match those of general students attending a given college, is it?

CR : 730
Math : 780
WR : 700

SAT 2

I know its bad, I'm gonna retake all..

Projected SAT 2 (my aim when I retake them)

PS: I think when someone says “match”, that means my stats match those of general students attending a given college, is it?

Not really…there really aren’t “match schools” where your stats are going to match the “general students” attending a college. Match schools don’t have students whose avg M+CR SAT is a 1510. A match school would be a school that is selective, but your stats will likely get you in.

Since you’re not sure if you may want to major in engineering, I don’t think LACs would be a good choice for you…most/many don’t have engineering.

For matches…

UMich
Purdue
RPI (but I don’t know if it has a B-school)

Are you NMSF?

Will your parents pay for wherever you get accepted? If not, how much will they pay? And, will they pay the costs of your safety school?

Purdue and RPI seem more like safeties to me with a 1510, but it’s hard to advise without knowing what you consider a dream and what you consider your safety. If your dream is MIT you might need some low reaches—places that can’t be called “matches” because they’re very hard to get into, but still slightly easier than MIT. Places like Rice, Northwestern, Emory, Hopkins. But I don’t know about engineering at those places. Smith if you’re female. I think some Pennsylvania liberal arts schools do have engineering----Lehigh, Lafayette.

There are a few LACs which have engineering, and some number more with finance, but most have neither. You might have to settle for Econ at many LACs.

RPI does have the Lally School of Business. I would consider it a match for this student, in part because of the OP’s international status. Lafayette offers majors in Economics and International Economics and Commerce. Bucknell offers a major in Economics and Mathematics, as well as majors in Accounting and Management in its School of Management.

You would definitely get a nice “bump” at some of the more selective schools if you decide to major in Engineering, since you are a female. I’m not overly optimistic of your chances at the top-tier Engineering programs such as MIT, Stanford, CIT, UCB, etc. Your class rank will hurt you at the top-tier schools and so will your EC’s, which are a little thin. I do think you have good/realistic chances at UMich, as mom2collegekids points out (if you can afford it), and also UIllinois(UIUC), and UTexas Austin. Purdue would be a low match or might even be considered a high safety for you. I would also apply to your in-state flagship school UWash. USC is another school that you may want to consider. Without knowing more about you and the type of schools you like, it’s hard to recommend any with much certainty.

I would declare Engineering as your major, rather than Finance, since it is generally easier to transfer into Finance from Engineering, than the other way around, if you decide to change majors.

I also heard that RPI is also a good science school, I should check it out.

???

Does this mean that you have a green card? or a visa? If you don’t have a green card, then getting any needed financial aid will be an issue at many schools.

What is your budget for college? How much will your parents spend each year?

If money isn’t a concern, then great! But, if money is a concern, then your choices of colleges may need to be changed a bit.
