I'm interested in going somewhere with a good outdoor program- and good academics as well. I've looked at Dartmouth, Bowdoin, Colorado College, Whitman...
any other ideas or input on any of these colleges?

What do you mean by “outdoor program”?

Add Colby and Bates to your list. As I recall, close to 80% of the student body participates in the outdooring club(s). It’s an important part of the culture in Maine schools.

Reed and Lewis and Clark.

You could probably get some ideas here: [The Best Colleges For Outdoor Recreation | Outside Online](http://outside.away.com/outside/features/200309/200309_college_towns_1.html)

U of Colorado at Boulder is supposed to be incredible for all outdoor activities—skiing, running, hiking, biking, kayaking, triathletes. I’ve heard it’s all about the mountains.

How about Cornell?

Yeah I also question what do you mean by outdoor programs? I know Iowa have a huge environment program.

I’m not sure what you mean by outdoor programs but likely Bowdoin fits your list.

I’ll second Lewis & Clark College, Portland, OR. My D is a senior there. Great outdoor programs and trips and close proximity to many outdoor recreational activities. Skiing, snowboarding, rock climbing, crew, sailing, hiking, major bike riding area, windsurfing, kiteboarding, etc.

University of Washington.

Middlebury is located in a beautiful area. The school has its own downhill ski area about a 10 minute drive from campus.

Colorado College and Whitman are rather deliberate about integrating the natural environment into campus life. CC builds outdoor experiences such as mountain trail maintenance into its new student orientation program; it has a very well supported outdoor club; field work in the Rockies and adjacent areas is built into many classes (which is made easier by the school’s one-course-at-a-time “block plan”). Whitman has a “Semester in the West” program where you take all classes for 1 term out on the trail.
