Really good placement rates? Industry reputation? Internships?
RPI.
We loved Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). I believe school is ranked 50-something on USNWR national university list. Beautiful New England campus in a nice neighborhood. Worcester is completely renovating the downtown. City is much nicer than 10-20 years ago. WPI has a very hands-on, project-oriented curriculum. Students do lots of internships and coops. They take 3 classes at a time. We loved the campus vibe, and students seemed great.
Maybe Lehigh and some of the public science/engineering schools like NC State, Purdue, Texas A&M, Va. Tech (students love Tech and acceptance rate is high relative to the quality of the school, especially engineering), UConn, etc. Good luck!
Clarkson, under appreciated school. Great placement/internships/salary after graduation
Kettering University, a great cooperative education school. Strong ties to the automotive industry as it was originally General Motors Institute.
How much can your family afford? From another post you are from VA. VTech is a great option with in-state rates. Another option is UAH with its good internship relationships with NASA and Redstone Arsenal.
The Big Ten, except for Indiana.
And if you change your mind, there are a plethora of other majors from which to choose – breadth.
Your other thread says “money is an issue.” What is your budget and EFC?
Virginia Tech is an obvious choice as it is instate, as is UVA. But both are tough admits for engineering. George Mason, VCU, and ODU are also instate options for engineering. As has been noted, you need to figure out your EFC and budget. What has your family agreed to pay?
In addition to the schools mentioned above, look at Stevens Institute of Technology. They have a strong mechanical engineering program.
If you can endure the horror of not being within a few hours of an ocean, you would likely get merit aid from Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa State, Texas Tech.
Northeastern - good program, one of the best co-op programs out there. Many other good suggestions here.
With a vague question like that, get ready to hear about everybody’s pet favorite school.
