This isnt really a college chances thing i have a question about the college search,

Im a junior in high school in the last stretch. I dont have a lot of clubs i have about 3 with 1 leadership position that is pretty weak but i helped co-found, and 2 others where i started drives and other little campaigns. I do a sport, and other meaningless things. But i have a gpa of about a 3.6-3.7.

I guess my question is. What schools are the best for a 3.6-3.7

an SAT of about a 1800-2050
and decent ECs, nothing huge

I hate aiming low but i thought the people at CC must know. Im really starting my college search now and am hoping to visit schools and besides some reaches like the usual (because i live in California) UCB, UCLA, and others. What are good schools i can match and what are some good safeties with what i have. Sorry im not giving all of the details. Many people at my school (large public, Los Angeles) , are in a similar situation and i feel like so many people here at CC have these incredible gpas and these amazing ECs and i feel like i wont get into anywhere.

I would consider schools in the range of Tulane, University of Miami, University of Rochester, George Washington University, Southern Methodist University.

Perhaps University of Michigan.

Use the college search engine [College Admissions, Search, and Financial Aid Help from College Confidential - College Admissions, Search, and Financial Aid Help from College Confidential](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/college_search/index.htm)

More info on what kind of college you are looking for (university? LAC?) and what you think you might want to major in would help. Do you have financial constraints? Are you open to any location?

Will cost be a big issue. If you use the search engine on this site (above) you will be able to put in more details and not give up your privacy

Thanks for all the replies guys im so nervous about all of this i have like no confidence
@egelloc80 it isnt a big issue for me… my family isnt extremely flexible but I am not planning of applying anywhere very outlandish, but my family says generally about 30 -35 a year is probably the max.

@intparent I’ve always had a passion for medicine and want to go to med school in the future so i think Biological studies or psychology (yes i know that is not really medicine) are the 2 majors i am most likely to pursue. I volunteer and participated in a research study with some physicians the past 2 summers at UCLA. I want to go to a large university, smaller universities dont generally appeal to me, but i am open to anything. I have decided to live just about everywhere except the South such as Texas and Oklahoma. But am open to any other region (west, northeast, southeast, midwest, and the northwest)

$30,000 to $35,000 per year is about the in-state list price of UCs and some out-of-state schools like Iowa State, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, NCSU, and SUNY schools. In-state CSUs are less expensive.

For more expensive list price schools, try the net price calculator to figure out whether the expected family contribution is in line with what they are willing to pay. If the schools expect more than what they are willing to pay, then you need to find big merit scholarships at the schools.

Can you look at Naviance scatterplots at your high school to get an idea of how others with your grades and test scores did in college admissions?

Remember, the first school you need to find for your application list is your safety.

sign up for the ACT and SAT and prep for them. Then do them again in the fall after you’ve worked on any weaknesses.

Alabama would accept you. The price is affordable for your budget if you’re ok with a standard double dorm instead of the pricier private rooms.

If you get your SAT or ACT to a scholarship level, then you might be able to also cover a private room if desired.

Alabama has a gorgeous campus, the people are friendly and the academics are strong. It also has very good pre-med advising. My younger son is a senior there and has been accepted to med school.

will be willing to go out of state?
